The role The successful candidate will support members of the Casualty Technical Claims team to deliver the Hiscox standard of claims service, managing their own claims portfolio of Liability claims which will include Healthcare Regulatory and Medical Malpractice, Bodily Injury and Third Party Property Damage claims. Previous experience in all of these fields is not a pre-requisite but you must be an experienced litigator or claims handler, capable of handling a portfolio of complex, high value and varied claims. You should be able to handle these claims yourself or where necessary, provide appropriate challenge and scrutiny of claims where external solicitor or loss adjusters have been appointed. The role requires strong people skills as you will be required to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the wider UK Claims team, underwriters, brokers, loss adjusters and panel solicitors. You will work closely with the Casualty Management team to deliver the UK Claims strategic goals and provide Hiscox customers with an exceptional claims experience that is personal, specialist and effortless. This is an interesting and varied role for an experienced litigator or claims handler, who can apply their skills to assist a wide range of Hiscox customers. The role will enable you to broaden your experience and skill set with the support of an award winning UK Claims team. What you’ll be doing: Managing your own portfolio of complex, higher value claims for both commercial and household customers, from both our Direct and broker channels. Your portfolio will be a mixture of third party property damage, healthcare regulatory, medical malpractice claims and bodily injury claims. Identifying opportunities for contribution or subrogated recovery claims and pursuing those where appropriate. Conducting peer audits and reviews of Casualty claims files, providing constructive feedback and identifying learning points for the Casualty claims team. Developing and managing relationships with key internal stakeholders particularly Underwriters and Schemes account managers. Taking referrals from our delegated authority solicitors on policy coverage and strategy issues and identifying any trends or areas for continuous improvement or learning. Developing strong knowledge of and relationships with our panel law firms and adjusters to ensure that Hiscox and its customers are represented by the individuals with the most appropriate expertise and experience. Identifying trends and risk areas that are relevant to Hiscox and its customers and ensuring these are reported to the appropriate stakeholders. Assisting less experienced members of the Casualty team with queries and referrals on technical issues such as policy coverage, litigation strategy and use of experts/external advisors. Working with internal stakeholders to provide appropriate claims examples and experience to support new business tenders, policy wording reviews and marketing initiatives. Assisting with continuous improvement of the Hiscox claims service; this could be working with our Claims Operations team on process change as a subject matter expert or through providing training sessions to others within claims and underwriting. Contribute to Claims, UK or Group projects as required, for example in relation to fraud and indemnity management. Our must-haves: At least 6 years’ experience of Liability claims or Commercial Litigation as an insurance claims handler or within a law firm. Strong experience and understanding of pre-action protocols, litigation process and ADR. Confidence and ability to manage own portfolio, taking initiative whilst still adhering to authority levels and internal processes. Commercial awareness with the ability to manage indemnity and fee spend and understand the impact of claims decision on the wider UK business. Excellent customer service focus and delivery. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly establish credibility and long lasting relationships within the team, the wider business and with external partners. Courage and ability to manage and resolve conflict. Passion to drive change and promote a culture of continuous improvement. Strong knowledge of relevant risk and regulation for insurers.
