Are you an experienced wastewater infrastructure engineer looking to get involved in the largest wastewater environmental improvement programme?
This is an exciting time to join BakerHicks as we establish and grow our Water Sector team, offering fantastic career progression and the chance to play a key role in shaping this team and driving meaningful change.
We’re a growing business - small enough for every individual to play a vital role and be genuinely valued, yet big enough to make a significant impact in the industry.
With a diverse and exciting workload that extends beyond just Water, this is an opportunity to be part of something with tremendous potential, where your contributions will directly influence our success.
We are looking to appoint an exceptional Principal Civil Engineer to join our newly formed multi-disciplinary Water Team, where you will play a key role in delivering a wide range of wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
We are looking for someone who offers a fresh approach to conventional thinking and works collaboratively to meet a wide range of business, environmental, and regulatory difficulties for our clients.
What you will do
As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will produce technical designs, specifications and reports for a large variety of projects in terms of size, type, and complexity, both single discipline and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
You will be involved in projects from conception to completion including:
1. Supporting the Project Manager/Water Sector Director to clarify the project brief (agree on deliverables, key milestones, project methodology etc).
2. Manage C&S design delivery across projects in single or multi-discipline teams.
3. Undertake significant elements of the detailed design and checking of outputs as directed (e.g. calculations, drawings, sketches, reports etc) to achieve the optimum solution for the project.
4. Assessing, documenting and communicating design changes to the Project Manager.
5. Be aware of work requirements and take personal responsibility in delivering this to agreed time, cost and quality requirements.
6. Attend “close-out meetings” and recommend/implement improvements to policy, processes and project management methods through our Perfect Delivery platform.
As a member of the new Water Team, you will also be involved in business development activities including assisting with the preparation of capability statements and the submission of pre-qualification questionnaires, expressions of interest and tenders, and building strong relationships with new and existing clients to drive growth and secure repeat business.
Requirements
You will have significant experience working on wastewater infrastructure and/or non-infrastructure projects across the UK. You will be able to demonstrate your skills and knowledge of the industry and be passionate about driving your career in engineering forward.
1. Experience managing wastewater and/ or water schemes.
2. Good knowledge of industry design software packages.
3. Excellent communication skills and a team player with an assured, positive and enthusiastic attitude in communicating effectively with clients and the wider teams.
4. Experience mentoring, coaching and supervising a team.
5. You will be degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or another relevant subject.
6. You will ideally be an Incorporated or Chartered member of a relevant engineering institution e.g. ICE, CIWEM.
