About us
Porterbrook specialises in the leasing and asset management of all types of railway rolling stock and associated equipment. About the team
Our Long Marston Operations Team provide onsite logistical solutions and support services, tailored to our internal and external customers’ needs. The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, professionally trained team.
Responsibilities
* Actively manage the Operations team and ensure site operations run safely and smoothly in accordance with local procedures.
* Chair Daily and weekly operational meetings and optimise workforce utilisation by planning workload around resource capacity.
* Using visual management tools, report and communicate operational performance and escalate any issues to the Operations Manager.
* Coach and lead the operations workforce to encourage best practice and compliance with Porterbrook’s safe system of work.
* Actively manage the team’s professional development through regular one to ones and performance development plan discussions.
* Responsible for carrying out site safety inspections and reporting them through processes in the site’s Safety Management System.
* Responsible for optimising the site's resource capability with effective management of the company’s absence/sickness policy.
* Support the delivery of a safe operational environment for all staff, contractors, customers, and visitors to the site ensuring compliance with site health, safety, and security procedures.
* Support the management of the operational activities on the site including the usage of plant on site, ensuring this is done safely and efficiently.
* Execute operational activities as directed by the Operations Manager.
* Support the delivery of customer service for rolling stock activities, ensuring these are done safely and in line with the agreed procedures and established railway standards.
* Responsible for planning all operational activities on the site, specifically the planning of operational tasks to ensure customer requirements are met along with the general operational running of the site.
* Ensure that all operational activities are recorded to demonstrate safe practices and provide full traceability of vehicle movements and to evidence contractual obligations with Porterbrook’s customers.
* Support the business in preparation for all planned events e.g., Rail Live & Vision & Values, ensuring that all contractual obligations and expectations are met.
* Deputise the Operations Manager role as required.
Skills and Experience
General Requirements:
The role holder will come from a rail operations background, either in a Train Operating Company or within a Rail Depot with significant experience in rolling stock shunting operations and extensive knowledge of various coupling and traction systems.
Qualifications
* GCSE in English and Maths is required.
* Competent in rail locomotive driving and shunting of passenger and freight stock.
* Extensive knowledge in basic rolling stock maintenance.
* Competent in forklift truck operation and crane operations.
* Must have a driving licence for motor vehicles.
Knowledge
* Excellent working knowledge of the railway operations from a depot perspective.
* Excellent knowledge of safe systems of work for railway depot/yard operations.
* Working knowledge of passenger and freight rolling stock systems.
* Good general understanding of rail traction and safety systems.
* Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques is advantageous.
Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in rolling stock shunting operations.
* Experience in manufacturing processes is advantageous.
