It begins with Business Enablers
MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to harm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing, and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt these threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and guidance to government, businesses and other organisations about how to keep themselves safe. A role in MI5 means you'll do unique and challenging work in a supportive and encouraging environment, making a real difference to UK national security.
As a Business Enabler, you’ll gain experience, build relationships and grow your knowledge while providing mission-critical support. This isn’t a development programme – it’s an opportunity for you to get involved, discover new, exciting career prospects, and ensure the wider intelligence agency has what it needs to protect our national security. So, whether you’ve just graduated or you’re looking for a career change, join us and you’ll develop your skills, have a hugely positive impact and be at the heart of what we do.
You, as Business Administrator, will collaborate with a range of business areas, but you won’t be rotated around different departments. You’ll be posted to one role that will last a minimum of two years in an area such as Finance, Legal, Information Management, HR, Project Management, Compliance, Recruitment, Policy, Pensions or Data Management – to name a few. In Cheltenham or Manchester, you could be posted to areas including Recruitment, Vetting, HR, Commercial or Finance. And at the end or your posting, you’ll take control of your career with the opportunity to apply for a range of roles across MI5 depending on your location.
To join, you’ll have (or be expecting) a 2:2 degree or above in any subject or you’ll have work experience where you have developed and used the skills and qualities that will be crucial for this role. You’ll be able to communicate effectively, establish productive working relationships, work well in a team and be adaptable to new working environments. With great organisational skills and attention to detail, you’ll trust your own judgment and have confidence in making your own decisions. There’s no one ‘type’ of person we’re after; Business Enablers come from all kinds of backgrounds, and their diverse perspectives help to safeguard the UK.
You’ll get an induction when you start, have your own mentor, and plenty of training. At MI5 we have an open, supportive culture where everybody can bring their authentic self to work. We’re proud to have several affinity groups, including ethnic minority and gender equality networks, mental health, neurodiversity and disability groups, faith/no faith, LGBTQ+ communities, and more. And, as well as being part of our friendly, inclusive work environment, you’ll receive 25 days’ annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years’ service), opportunities to work flexibly, a personal learning budget, and an interest-free season ticket loan.
This is a unique Business Administrator opportunity to utilise your skills and make a real contribution to our organisation.
At MI5, diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.
