THE ROLE
We are seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our Productions team and play a pivotal leadership role at the heart of BBC Studios. The role will report into and work closely alongside the BBC Studios Productions CEO and CCO. The COO will support the genre leads and safeguard our brands by providing consistency and expertise when needed.
The COO is a highly matrixed role, bringing together the overall Productions P&L, while empowering accountability and decision making at genre level. The role provides comprehensive guidance and strategic advice to the CEO/CCO, Production Executive and other senior stakeholders within the BBC Group.
The COO will be responsible for the operational leadership of BBC Studios Productions including all aspects of risk, governance, and operational delivery.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE?
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Experience of operating at COO level in a production business.
* Substantial experience of creating, implementing and monitoring strategies, business plans and budgets with a proven track record of bringing a commercial and entrepreneurial mindset.
* Strong analytical skills and intellectual rigour applied to decision making.
* Proven track record in building and leading large multi-disciplinary teams.
* Substantial experience of leading change projects of scale in a complex matrixed environment.
* Ability to influence and communicate confidently.
* Able to establish effective and collaborative relations across BBC Studios departments and external stakeholders.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
* Possess a strong understanding of the Media sector and BBC competitors, with relevant in-depth knowledge of current industry trends.
* Global mindset: thinking and acting for both local and global needs.
* Accountability – proven ability to make tough decisions and see them through to completion.
* A networker with existing relationships to engage credibly with executive creative leaders.
* A collaborative style and someone who can work well under pressure.
