T he Role Our award-winning Mission Systems Team deliver some of the world’s most advanced aviation IT systems from our office in Lincoln. As a result of our continued success and business expansion, we are delighted to offer a User Guide and Systems Manual Author opportunity to support the development and delivery of our bespoke IT products. As a User Guide and Systems Manual Author, you will be responsible for documenting the capabilities of our products and providing written guidance for their use, for both external and internal customers. You will also be responsible for ensuring the knowledge captured is communicated within the Mission Systems team. The main duties of the role will include: Update and maintenance of the User Guide / Technical Specification as our product evolves. Providing constructive HMI feedback. Contributing to the design of the software and overall system. Review of work produced by others. These duties will be primarily undertaken in the setting of an agile software development process. Further development of the role is possible. This role is based in the Company Offices in Lincoln; remote working is available where tasking allows - applicants should assume that they may be required to work in the office full-time some weeks, and more frequently during the probation period. As a member of a small highly skilled team, the responsibilities of the role will necessarily be broad and varied and you should be prepared to assume a comprehensive range of tasks, be capable of working with minimum supervision, be confident enough to contribute your own suggestions and ideas and have a ‘can do’ attitude as you will be required to take a flexible, constructive and timely approach to meeting the diverse needs of the Company’s business. You will also have an inquisitive/analytical mind, be able to research issues independently and suggest pragmatic, business-focused solutions. We require a proactive individual with relevant and recent knowledge and experience of providing solutions aligned to the role requirements defined above. Qualifications, Skills and Experience Evidence of the following would be considered essential: Experience in the research and analysis of technical information to produce high-quality documentation. Ability to understand and apply the ‘5Cs’ in technical writing. Experience of writing structured content (ideally using an XML / SGML format). Competent user of modern office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.). Competent user of image editing software. Evidence (including qualifications or certifications) of any of the following would be considered desirable: Proficiency in writing using MadCap Flare (highly desirable), DITA, or other similar software. Experience in the use of configuration control tools such as SVN or Git. A strong understanding of the aviation environments in which our products are used. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with Systems and Software Engineering Lifecycles, interface and integration. An understanding of Requirements, Architecture and Verification concepts for Software and Systems. An understanding of basic IT Networking concepts. System, hardware or software test experience, ideally within a regulated domain (e.g., aerospace). An understanding of current safety standards and concepts, for the development of systems for safety related systems (e.g., RTCA/DO-178C, DO-200A, DO-254). An understanding of current security standards and concepts (e.g., HMG IA, ISO 27001, ‘Secure-by-Design’). Due to the nature of elements of the role, the successful applicant must be a UK National and may be required to successfully complete National Security Vetting which may require criminal record, security service and credit reference checks; qualification will also normally require a minimum UK residency of at least 5 years.
