Highly Specialist Respiratory Physiotherapist
Band 7
Job overview
Complex breathlessness is a developing clinical area. This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the first national teams treating patients with complex breathlessness (severe asthma, breathing pattern disorder, and Inducible laryngeal obstruction).
You would be working within a well-established Multidisciplinary team (MDT) alongside the clinical lead physiotherapist in Breathing Pattern Disorder (BPD).
As a tertiary centre, the Service receives local, regional, and national referrals to assess and treat Severe Asthma, Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction (ILO), and BPD.
The role is predominantly in an outpatient setting with some in-reach onto the medical wards.
You will be supported to develop both your breathing pattern disorder management skills and research skills, with opportunities to contribute to team projects and lead your own research.
Evidence of an MDT working ethos is essential, and the application of an innovative approach is required.
The MDT comprises Respiratory Consultants, Respiratory Physiotherapists, Severe Asthma nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, and a Clinical Health Psychologist.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide clinical leadership for the Specialist clinical area, working in partnership with colleagues from across the Integrated Therapies Service and other Directorates and Divisions.
2. Act as a Specialist Physiotherapy practitioner, undertaking expert assessments, management, treatment programmes, and discharge plans for patients.
3. Act as a link between the Integrated Therapies Service and colleagues in other organisations to ensure effective transfer of patient care.
4. Address Clinical Governance issues through the continuing development and implementation of an evidence-based/best practice framework for the management of patients.
5. Undertake duties in accordance with the levels of competence as defined in the KSF outline for this post.
