Job Title: Design and Development Engineer
Location: West Midlands
Salary: £30,000-£45,000 (D.O.E)
About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and enthusiastic Junior Engineer to join the Design, Development, and Industrialisation Department at a leading engineering company, based in the West Midlands. This role offers the chance to be a key part of developing modern passenger car powertrain systems.
As a Design & Development Engineer, you will be responsible for/assist the team with the design, development, sign-off, and release of components. You will support client teams by identifying, analysing, and resolving complex issues related to structural, electrical, battery, ICE, or fuel cell components.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in design principles, CAD, and applied engineering in the automotive industry.

Responsibilities:
* Component design (proficiency in at least one CAD package)
* Understanding of automotive development processes (from concept to production)
* Familiarity with design for manufacturing (material selection, machining techniques, and tolerance design)
* Ability to interpret CAE and CFD analysis and apply findings to component design
* Development of FMEA and design verification test plans
* Analyse test data and determine design impacts
* Prioritise workload and meet deadlines
* Collaborate effectively within a team
* Prepare and deliver reports (verbal & written)
* Liaise with multiple functional groups within the organization
* Occasional travel to other sites and suppliers in the UK and internationally
* Promote company expertise within client teams
Requirements:
(Essential)
* Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Automotive Engineering (2:1)
* Understanding of vehicle/powertrain system requirements (ICE, hybrid, battery systems, etc.)
* Awareness of GD&T, FMEA, DVP&R, and 8D techniques
* Strong teamwork and communication skills
* Excellent verbal and written English
* Presentation skills
* Ability to work independently and in teams
* Willingness to travel
* Motivated, flexible, and committed to excellence
* Full UK Driving License
(Preferable)
* Experience with battery, fuel cell, or ICE design & development
* Masters/PhD
* Membership of a relevant professional institute (e.g., IET, IMechE)
* Experience with CAD tools (Catia, NX, or equivalent)
