The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is the world’s leading international think tank providing independent and objective information and analysis on military, geopolitical and geo-economic developments that could lead to conflict.
The Institute is seeking to appoint an Archivist to work for the Knowledge & Information Services department located in London.
Responsibilities:
* Management of the IISS archive: Complete the setting up of the IISS archive and take the lead on planning and prioritising future archive and records management initiatives.
* Development: Take responsibility for the development of the IISS Archives by creating finding aids; developing the E-Archives; refining archival policies and procedures in accordance with accepted standards and practices.
* Cataloguing: Catalogue print, electronic and audio-visual material to a high professional standard.
* Conservation: Assess material for conservation and potential digitisation.
* Research Advice: Advise and assist researchers in the use of archival materials in research activities.
Requirements:
* A degree or postgraduate qualification in either Archives/Records Management or Librarianship/Information Science.
* Significant experience of working in an archive or information service, including the provision of research assistance.
* Significant experience of archive and library management systems.
* Strong core technical collection management skills - cataloguing, indexing and stock selection.
* The ability to work on own initiative and organise own workload to meet deadlines.
