Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant to join our established team of 7.5 WTE Consultant Medical Microbiologists and 1 WTE Specialty Doctor. A Specialty Trainee, based in Cardiff, is periodically attached.
The consultant team will increase to 8.6 WTE and 1 specialty doctor this year.
The Executive Board has approved investment into the service, which has a high organisational profile. The Consultant team will increase to 8.9 WTE within the next 3 years (sooner if suitable candidates apply), with Community Antimicrobial Pharmacist and administrative support.
The clinical and laboratory Microbiology service has full UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and is networked to provide a comprehensive microbiology and infection control service.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be based at the Royal Gwent Hospital for the regular duties of the Microbiology and Infection Control service (which will be shared and rotated between 8 Medical Microbiologists).
The post holder will attend meetings and ward visits at other sites within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
They will play an important role in the redesign of service provision in light of the Health Board’s Clinical Futures strategy, and the Welsh Government “Future Delivery of Pathology Services in Wales” document.
Together with colleagues, the successful candidate will provide a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective clinical microbiology, virology, and infection control service to all users of the service. They will lead in specified aspects of the microbiology and infection control service as discussed at periodic service reviews.
