As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.
We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment we are looking to recruit a AVB Lobby Clerk, to work 37 hours a week on a full-time basis based at Birmingham New Street.
You will provide an efficient and professional service to all West Midlands Trains staff by issuing and receiving revenue equipment, including accountancy procedures, whilst adhering to cash regulations, thus providing protection of revenues due to West Midlands Trains.
What does the job involve?
* Ensure that all Revenue Protection staff and Senior Conductors are issues with the correct equipment on a daily basis
* Make certain all monies received are accounted for and can be reconciled according to company cash regulations
* Ensure that West Midlands Trains is positively promoted by your actions at all times
* Attend for duty in a fit state, and of a neat and tidy appearance wearing full current uniform, including name badge.
* Ensure the safety of customers and staff including yourself at all times.
* Book on and off duty at the correct time as per roster.
* Fully prepare and issue revenue equipment and float and ensure it is fit for purpose before issuing.
* Receive revenue equipment and credits. Detach PDA from printer and place into cradles daily.
* Report faulty equipment as required ensuring maximum availability of ticket equipment. Order and maintain full stock of items required for revenue purposes.
* In accordance with cash regulations, and accompanied by the appropriate documentation, account for all monies, credits and float including other recognised methods of payments paid in and belonging to West Midlands Trains Prepare cash for banking and cash bags for collection by designated security company.
* Ensure internal control contract requirements are met and that cash regulations and accounting instructions are implemented and adhered to. Duties to include change orders, safe and cash floats and shift changeover balance checks.
* Issue and/or retrieve documentation and equipment including surplus, loss, passenger count forms, Penalty Fare, Unpaid Fares Notice pads, stampers, etc. Ensure that retrieved documentation is referred to the relevant department.
* Correct ticket issuing errors as required.
* Check and enter all shift sheets to the AVB continuity computer document, compile weekly and monthly accounts.
* Balance of shift sheets and transfer details to the summary of daily transactions sheet.
* Maintain, clean and report or log of defects of equipment in use.
* Maintain office security and a tidy environment at all times.
* Report verbally (or if requested provide a written report) on any mishaps, accidents, incidents and occurrences including any safety related incidences immediately to a Supervisor or Manager.
* Any other duties commensurate with the grade and post and as required.
What skills and experience do I need to do the job?
* Good standard of English, Maths and general administration.
* Understanding of West Midlands Trains operations, ticketing and geography covered.
* Experience of working in a retail, customer service or cash handling environment would be an advantage.
