An exciting opportunity have arisen to join the Transport Department of West Yorkshire Police where an individual is required to join the Vehicle Preparation Unit (VPU). The successful candidate will be working within a team of highly skilled VPU Technicians and Fabricators as a Vehicle Installation Technician. The successful candidate must have the knowledge and capability to undertake the following key responsibilities:
• To commission a wide range of vehicles to a high standard which will be deployed for a multitude of usages within West Yorkshire Police.
• To commission vehicles to set specifications which are in line with legislation and regulations.
• To install specialised police equipment (police emergency lighting, in-car CCTV, ANPR systems, Tracker system, telematics, radio communication equipment, etc) along with their associated brackets.
• To apply vehicle livery and anti-bandit film to windows.
• Work as part of a team in the design and manufacture of equipment for specialist police uses.
• Attend training courses for professional and personal development, both in house and at suppliers/manufacturers bases.
• Complete all approved Vehicle Fleet Management forms and miscellaneous paperwork in a precise and accurate manner.
• Work at alternative locations around the Force area when required by VPU Management.
• To removal all police equipment from vehicles for disposal.
The successful candidates must have a level 3 City and Guilds/NVQ in Motor Vehicle Engineering / Auto Electrics or equivalent, as well as relevant proven experience gained in a recognised motor vehicle environment.
Ideal candidates will have the potential to achieve industry standard performance requirements and be physically capable of undertaking the duties of the post.
It is essential that the successful candidates holds a full and current UK/European Driving Licence.
