Job overview
The East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust is looking for a dynamic, flexible and conscientious Domestic Service Assistant to join the facilities team at the Stowlodge Centre based in Stowmarket.
The role will involve cleaning clinic rooms and communal areas within the clinic. Cleaning tasks will involve dusting, mopping, hoovering, etc. You will be required to follow standard processes and procedures as outlined by the trust.
ESNEFT is undergoing a transitional phase which may result in the outsourcing of Soft FM services to another provider from April 2025. Successful candidates will commence on ESNEFT terms and conditions before transferring employment to the new employer. Terms and conditions will largely remain unchanged upon employment transfer.
Main duties of the job
* To ensure all areas are cleaned to the agreed standards and to work within the guidelines of COSHH.
* To ensure the standards of cleanliness meet the national specification of cleaning set out in the 2007 guidelines.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and pleasant environment to support day-to-day operations for patients, Trust staff, visitors, and contractors to site.
* To be aware and adhere to the Trust policies and procedures especially infection control.
Everyday tasks will include:
* Plan and organise your day, check cleaning schedules and tasks to be completed.
* General cleaning: Dusting, hoovering, mopping, replenishing of stock, changing bin bags, removing rubbish, cleaning and polishing internal glass, check cleans, changing curtains, tidying up, completing paperwork, completing discharge and infectious cleans, etc.
* Everyday tasks with specialised training.
* Use of scrubbing machines for hard floor areas of different finishes.
* Use of carpet cleaning for soft floor areas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key task areas:
* Comply with instruction from your line manager.
* Clean to the standards set out in the National cleaning specifications 2007.
* To be trained in COSHH and follow guidelines in the safe use of chemicals set out by the manufacturer and adhere to any Trust policies and procedures relating to cleaning and chemicals.
* Adhere to the Health and Safety Act 1974 and report any incidents or accidents through the Trust reporting system (Datix) and to your line manager ASAP.
* Adhere to the Food Safety Act 1990 and follow Trust policies and procedures relating to food safety.
* Adhere to the manual handling operations regulations 1992 and follow Trust policies and procedures.
* To keep patients' information confidential at all times.
* To attend Mandatory and Statutory training as required and any training related to the use of equipment and how to use chemicals to support your role.
* Ensure the correct PPE is worn.
* Clean and check machinery daily including cables, filters, bags and report any faults to your line manager.
* Check stock, order when supplies are low and replenish as needed.
* To remove waste (general and clinical) and dispose of in the correct waste stream.
* Work as part of the ward or clinic team and respond to requests from these areas in relation to work priorities.
* Adhere to cleaning schedules and complete tick sheets to ensure compliance of cleaning tasks set out by your line manager.
* Participate in Hand Hygiene and cleaning audits as required.
* To work in a professional manner at all times.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Qualifications in English and maths.
* Basic computer skills.
* NVQ or BIC’s qualification or work towards qualification when in post.
* Attended training in COSHH.
* Attended training in Health and Safety.
Experience
* Proven cleaning experience.
* Good knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
* Knowledge and understanding of COSHH.
* Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety.
* Previous cleaning experience within the NHS.
Skills and abilities
* An ability to understand written and spoken instructions.
* An ability to work unsupervised.
* Good customer care skills.
* Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Personal Qualities
* Be prepared to work in other areas to suit the needs of services.
* Punctual, flexible and reliable.
* Presentable, polite with a friendly manner.
