This is a great opportunity to join and support the delivery of a crucial strategic project for our SLS business line and Llanberis. As an Instrument Engineering Manager, your expertise will ensure that our manufacturing processes are efficient, cost-effective, and meet the highest standards of quality. Inspirational leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage cross-functional teams to achieve production goals will be at the heart of the way you work.
You will deputise for the Head of Instruments to continue to drive the end-to-end operations should the need arise. This role will work from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
You will work in partnership with the existing instrument knowledge transfer team to develop best practices in workstation design, and manufacturing flow to ensure a smooth manufacturing ramp-up and the subsequent development of a world-class manufacturing operation in our Llanberis facility.
Job Responsibilities:
* Own the engineering manufacturing strategy to maintain and improve the manufacture of IMMULITE XPi and Versacell along with the manufacture of all spare parts provisions.
* Develop and provide leadership to the daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing and engineering tiered meetings process.
* Develop and implement manufacturing strategies to optimise production efficiency and quality utilising Hoshin Kanri.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
* Lead and mentor colleagues across the organisation by providing guidance and support to achieve performance and behavioural goals to create high-performing teams.
* Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to deliver upon manufacturing plans and the strategic direction of the business.
* Monitor and analyse production metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
* Own lean manufacturing principles to optimise production processes and remove waste.
* Facilitate training and development programs for production staff to enhance lean methodologies.
* Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions across the organisation.
* Prepare and present reports on production performance and improvement initiatives.
* Effectively communicate with both internal and external suppliers/stakeholders.
* Actively use business systems such as IED, CATSWEB, CERDAAC, SAP, Documentum, and Learn4U.
* Ensuring compliance with all safety, health, and environmental (SHE) legislation.
Your Skill & Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing management role, preferably in the medical devices industry.
* Demonstrated leadership of a cross-functional team circa 50+.
* Demonstrated leadership of budget creation and management.
* Experience of driving performance behaviour using models like Lencioni.
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
* Certification in Lean Six Sigma (e.g., Green Belt, Black Belt).
* Proficiency in production management software and tools like SAP.
