Your impact
Our Energy and Power team works across the Transmission and Distribution sectors throughout the UK. We are currently seeking an Associate Director - HV Cable Design Engineer. This role involves taking a leadership position to drive design excellence, mentor team members, and support cross-functional collaboration to meet both customer and industry requirements.
About the Opportunity
The position involves designing high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) power cable systems. Initially, you will provide detailed design information to support cost estimates for proposed systems. Upon receipt of an order, you will carry out contract engineering.
You will lead the design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV, from the tendering stage through to project handover.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver Concept design, FEED, feasibility and Detailed design projects and bids for clients.
2. Develop cost-effective engineered solutions, considering materials, manufacturability, and compliance with both customer and internal standards.
3. Carry out loading calculations to verify the adequacy of proposed designs.
4. Calculate appropriate cable sizes.
5. Perform rating calculations.
6. Prepare material schedules and bills of quantities.
Here's what you'll need
1. Degree level qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
2. Experience with specifications from clients like National Grid, SSE, and UKPN.
3. Experience and knowledge of EHV (11kV to 400kV) power systems and equipment and ideally EHV power cables and substation equipment.
4. Understanding of cable installation techniques.
5. Proficiency in IEC standards and familiarity with design software.
