Advanced Treatment Planning Healthcare Science Practitioner
The post holder is an advanced treatment planner, competent in the full range of conformal 3D planning and more advanced planning techniques such as Volumetric Arc Therapy (VMAT), Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), intra-cranial stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) and extra-cranial stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). Working with clinicians and radiographers, they produce plans meeting agreed constraints across the full range of outputs produced by the department, with a major emphasis on advanced planning techniques. They will also be an active member of the plan checking and quality assurance rota within the department and contribute to the Non-Medical outlining Service provided within Medical Physics.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for:
* Routinely producing the most advanced 3D plans produced by the department including IMRT, VMAT, SRT and SBRT, working closely with clinicians to ensure plans meeting agreed constraints are produced in a timely manner.
* Quality checking of the full range of conformal 3D plans and final checking of a limited range of conformal 3D plans and corrections produced by other planners.
* Assisting with the training and supervising of junior and trainee staff in the production of 3D conformal and advanced planning techniques. This may include participants in external training courses such as BSc in Clinical Technology, MSc in Medical Physics, medical registrars, and therapeutic radiographers.
* Working as required to support and facilitate the department's participation in local clinical trial recruitment and national trial quality assurance.
* Participating in the rota for routine linear accelerator output checks, CT-Simulator quality assurance, and IMRT / VMAT patient and machine quality assurance, to ensure that all machines and plans are produced and delivered in accordance with national standards.
