Job summary Specialist Occupational Therapist - Adult Learning Disability Services, East Surrey An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Occupational Therapist to come and be part of a forward-thinking occupational therapy service within the East Surrey Community Team for people with learning disabilities. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team who are committed to leading and developing innovative ways of ensuring the needs of people who use our services are a key component of high-quality service delivery. This role would suit an existing Band 6 Occupational Therapist or an experienced Band 5 looking for a challenge and experience at Band 6 level. The ideal candidate would be passionate about working with people with learning disabilities, have a grounded knowledge of occupational therapy, and be a self-directed motivated team player. Our Learning Disability Division comprises of an inpatient, assessment and treatment unit, an intensive support service, and within community teams for people with learning disabilities where the post holder will be based. We use the Model of Human Occupation to guide all our OT assessments and interventions. The OT Leadership team is committed to an extensive, coordinated CPD programme including supervision, care group and trust wide training, core competence training, and annual conferences. All staff are valued for their expertise in occupationally focused interventions and specialist group therapy. Main duties of the job 1. To provide high quality and evidence based occupational therapy assessment and interventions, both group and individual, to people who access services and their carers/supporters/family members, in line with the occupational therapy pathways. 2. To communicate effectively with people who access services, carers, the multi-disciplinary team and when appropriate outside agencies. 3. To contribute to the generic functioning of the team. 4. To provide supervision and mentoring to more junior occupational therapists, occupational therapy apprenticeships, support workers and activities coordinators (as appropriate) 5. To provide occupational therapy student placements. 6. To contribute to service development and audits. 7. To take on the role of lead professional as appropriate.
