This LSA role is in a specialist provision for children aged 11-19, all of whom have experienced significant trauma, social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
There is a strong focus on holistic and restorative practices, fostering empathy at every opportunity. The school emphasizes a non-punitive approach, utilizing manual handling training only as a last resort.
A practical trial day will be conducted in school to ensure the role is suitable for you. This is contingent upon your availability to start ASAP, considering any notice period or university commitments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support students in improving their lives and keeping them safe.
2. Demonstrate the value of education to students.
3. Receive extensive SEN and safeguarding training, including MAPA Training.
4. Engage with secondary-aged students with EHCPs, including those with Autism, OCD, and varying degrees of social anxiety.
5. Combine physical work with pragmatic approaches to help each child progress academically as their context allows.
6. Adapt to and manage some anti-social behavior as part of the role.
7. Implement therapies and holistic processes to facilitate progress.
8. Focus on diverse cognitive abilities and positive engagement with students.
9. Provide students with objectives and foster independence, especially for those in assisted living.
