Evelina London Children’s Hospital is a leading provider of children’s healthcare services in South East England, rated 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission. We are expanding our services, including child cancer services in 2026.
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 nurses to join our short stay surgical unit, which cares for children undergoing various surgical procedures including ENT, General Surgery, Cleft, Urology & Dental.
The post holder will be responsible for assessing, planning, and providing specialist nursing advice, carrying out specialist procedures, supervising staff and students, and leading clinical audits. Ensuring patient safety, dignity, and human rights are paramount.
Currently, the unit is located within the Beach floor complex, with plans for relocation due to service expansion.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Ensure high-quality clinical care respecting patients' cultural and religious needs.
* Manage a group of patients independently within the specialty, delivering personalized care.
* Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
* Minimize cross-infection risks, including safe disposal of body fluids.
* Assess educational needs of patients and families, and develop plans to meet these needs.
* Promote evidence-based practice and clinical standards to develop the service.
* Identify and address unsafe environments, reporting issues appropriately.
* Monitor and audit clinical practices to ensure high standards and cost-effectiveness.
* Implement educational programs for patients and carers.
* Support a positive learning environment for students and new staff.
* Engage in nursing research and maintain clinical knowledge.
* Provide clinical leadership and support to colleagues and students.
* Coordinate daily management of the clinical area, delegate duties, and ensure adequate staffing and skill mix.
* Assess, order, and manage bank and agency staff as needed.
* Develop, review, and implement clinical guidelines and protocols.
* Deputize for the Sister/Charge Nurse when absent.
