Offer Description
Are you passionate about advancing ruminant nutrition research? Queen's University Belfast's School of Biological Sciences is seeking an ambitious and motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team! The successful candidate will play a key role in the planning and delivery of research activities focused on the UKRI LUNZ Research project: the Grassland Resilience for Net Zero: Sustainable Practices for Shaping the Future of UK Land Use. The project aims to transform UK grasslands for net zero emissions while improving soil health, biodiversity, and economic benefits, supporting the agricultural transition to sustainability.
The primary purpose of this role is to conduct independent research and contribute to the planning and execution of research projects focused on the impact of different pasture compositions (e.g., legume-rich, multi-species swards) on animal productivity, greenhouse gas emissions, nitrogen excretions, and soil health. More specifically, the postholder will be responsible for assessing emissions from suckler cross-bred beef animals grazing in pastures of different compositions and measuring enteric CH4 emissions, N outputs in faeces and urine, growth rates, and feed efficiency.
About the person:
The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:
* Hold a Degree in animal science, animal nutrition, agriculture, biology, grasslands, or a related subject area.
* Have or are about to obtain a PhD in animal science, animal nutrition, agriculture, biology, grasslands, or related sciences.
* Have significant relevant research experience in the areas of ruminant production, nutrition, and physiology in relation to feed efficiency and methane production, including experimental design, sample collection, and data analysis.
* Have experience in the preparation of scientific publications/reports commensurate with research activity and career stage.
To be successful at the shortlisting stage, please ensure you clearly evidence in your application how you meet the essential and, where applicable, desirable criteria listed in the Candidate Information document on our website.
