Overview
We are looking for a proactive and hands-on HR professional to support a diverse workforce of 400 employees, including a large team of skilled facilities management engineers operating across the South of England and South Wales. Based in our city centre Bristol office, you’ll lead the operational HR function, line managing an HR Advisor.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and enjoys balancing day-to-day HR activities with opportunities to drive improvements in processes and systems.
You’ll play a key role in supporting a workforce that includes office-based employees and mobile engineers, helping ensure the HR function is responsive, efficient, and aligned to the needs of the business.
While focusing on operational delivery, you’ll have significant autonomy to make the role your own.
Your key responsibilities will include the following:
1. Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, including disciplinary, grievances, absence and performance management.
2. Lead the selection & implementation of a new HRIS system (targeted for 2025).
3. Prepare and present reports on key HR metrics, such as sickness, turnover, and retention.
4. Advise and coach line managers on policies, procedures and handling workplace challenges.
5. Ensure policies and procedures are compliant with employment law and regulations.
6. Support dismissals, appeals and any tribunal claims (with external legal support).
7. Oversee organisation changes, specifically TUPE transfer and redundancy processes, ensuring smooth change programmes for affected employees.
8. Provide guidance and support to the HR Advisor in dealing with day-to-day HR issues.
9. Prepare and maintain accurate employee data and records for payroll processing, working closely with the Payroll and Timesheet teams.
10. Manage contract variations and advise managers on the impact of changes to terms of employment.
11. Resolve employee requirements about pay, benefits and working arrangements.
12. Respond to and manage subject access requests from employees in line with GDPR and data protection legislation.
13. Support pay review processes and provide advice on salary benchmarking.
If interested in this role we anticipate you will have:
1. Obtained CIPD Level 5, working towards CIPD Level 7 or equivalent experience.
2. Proven experience in supporting managers in a similar role.
3. Extensive experience in complex employee relations cases.
4. Confidence in managing others and building relationships across all levels of the business.
5. Evidence of strong communication skills with the ability to influence others.
6. You will need resilience and excellent problem-solving skills.
7. Experience of managing and inputting data with excellent attention to detail.
8. Strong skills in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
You will ideally have:
1. Experience working in Construction, Facilities Management or in similar industries (logistics / manufacturing).
2. Experience selecting and implementing an HRIS.
3. Experience of owning a TUPE transfer process.
4. Experience drafting and updating contracts and HR policies.
