The McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research is seeking to appoint a a reliable and friendly Custodian, who will be responsible for a range of cleaning and caretaking tasks across our buildings situated on the Downing Site in Cambridge. About the role You will ensure that first impressions of our buildings are positive and welcoming, by contributing to the smooth running of activities and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness. This might include activities such as portering, setting up rooms, security and safety checks and minor maintenance tasks. As someone with a flexible approach, you will also: Oversee contractors that visit the site, and ensure their duties are completed satisfactorily. Maintain a safe working environment for the staff and visitors to the site. Sign for deliveries and ensure contractors and other visitors are correctly signed in during periods when the reception desk is not manned. Act as the Institute's Fire Manager (where we will provide you with training). About you As the ideal candidate for this role, you will join us with: Experience in a caretaking, or similar role, with practical knowledge and experience of professional cleaning. A good standard of general IT skills (including use of email and Microsoft Teams); the ability to enter data on to spreadsheets and to handle using the University's online maintenance reporting systems (with training) The ability to carry out minor maintenance activities. Good communication skills, with the ability to deal with a range of people within the Institute.
