Job overview
The post holder will be a specialist in the field of implantable CRM devices, including CRT, conduction system and leadless pacemaker pacing. This challenging role will be based primarily within the CRM device implant labs and follow up clinics.
The post holder will be expected to:
* Work at an advanced healthcare scientist level within the department to support Principal Cardiac Physiologist for CRM in delivering a high standard of care for device follow up patients as well as providing cross cover for the device implants.
* Work alongside the Principal and Lead Cardiac Physiologists for CRM to manage the following services; remote monitoring and provision of complex device implantation / follow up.
* Participate and present cases at the CRM/EP multidisciplinary meetings.
* Provide cross cover and support to the Lead Physiologist for CRM in the day-to-day running of the CRM service.
* Actively contribute to the smooth running of a quality service and undertake additional managerial responsibilities as designated by the Principal Physiologists.
* Work with the Principal Physiologist for CRM to develop strategies for providing support to patients in addition to follow up services i.e. patient support group.
* Work in any other areas designated by the Head of Cardiac Physiology, including non-invasive, interventional catheter labs for diagnostic and urgent coronary / structural heart intervention and take part in the on call rota for primary angioplasty and emergency arrhythmia pathway.
Main duties of the job
Act as the lead within a multidisciplinary team for CRM device implants. This will include liaising with the principal physiologists, clinical lead of EP, EP/ CRM consultants, admissions teams, procurement, heart failure team, and junior members of staff to ensure a high standard of care for patients undergoing device implantation.
Ensure that the device implant and follow up services interfaces with other services as effectively as possible.
Cross cover and support to the lead physiologist(s) for CRM in the day-to-day running of the CRM service.
Actively contribute to the smooth running of a quality service and undertake additional managerial responsibilities as designated by the principal physiologists.
Demonstrate clinical proficiency in a wide range of techniques, and actively maintain competency in these and work in all areas of clinical physiology (interventional labs and non-invasive diagnostics) when required.
In conjunction with the principal cardiac physiologists, develop advanced clinical practices within the department such as Healthcare Scientist/ Physiologist led ILR implant service. Take part in the on-call service for primary angioplasty and emergency arrhythmia pathway.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Practice as a specialist autonomous professional in CRM device follow up and implantation.
* Practice safely and effectively, providing clinical and physiological advice when appropriate.
* Set standards in the fields of CRM implants, and continually develop and update these.
* Keep abreast of developments in management of implantable device technology and disseminate new information.
* Comply with national and international guidelines.
* Ensure that King’s CRM device service interfaces with other implantation and follow up centres effectively.
* Perform regular audits to ensure compliance with standards.
* Deliver training, mentorship and supervision of cardiac physiologists.
* Identify training needs for staff, trainees and apprentices.
* Attend relevant courses and conferences.
* Contribute positively to the leadership of the clinical physiology staff.
* Take a proactive approach to minimising clinical risk to CRM patients.
* Independently plan and prioritise workload.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
* BSc Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent.
* Possess IBHRE / BHRS / EHRA (CRM) accreditation.
* Intermediate Life Support (ILS).
* Highly developed IT skills.
* MSc in Cardiology.
* HCPC accredited.
* Advanced Life Support (ALS).
Knowledge and Experience
* Proven competency and advanced knowledge in implanting and following up of all CRM devices.
* Good general knowledge of Cardiology to include heart failure.
* Good understanding of EP/ CRM device services.
* Awareness and understanding of current health issues.
* Proven competency in EP and ablation techniques.
* A knowledge of advanced EP techniques used to diagnose and treat AF / VT.
