Job Title: Student Counsellor (Maternity Cover)
Location: The Bulwell Academy, Nottingham
Salary: £34,834 - £36,648 (NJC Points 26-28) per annum FTE.
Start Date: January 2025
Contract Type: Fixed Term
Working Pattern: 37 hours per week, term time (39 weeks per annum)

The school Counsellor will play an integral role in ensuring the well-being, safeguarding, and attendance of all pupils within the school community, providing therapeutic support to students in a vibrant and inclusive secondary school environment.
About You:
As a School Counsellor at The Bulwell Academy, you will bring compassion, dedication, and a proactive approach to supporting students’ well-being and academic success. Our ideal candidate would:
* Provide one-to-one and group therapy sessions for students aged 11-16, focusing on emotional wellbeing and mental health.
* Work closely with the pastoral care team, SENCO, teachers, and parents to create tailored support plans for students.
* Conduct assessments and formulate therapeutic goals that address a range of adolescent mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and behavioural challenges.
* Offer crisis intervention and short-term therapeutic support as required.
* Maintain confidential records in line with school safeguarding policies and best practice standards.
* Contribute to the development of the school’s mental health and wellbeing strategies.
Requirements:
To apply for the school Counsellor opportunity, you must hold:
* A recognised qualification in psychotherapy, counselling, or clinical psychology, with a specialist in working with adolescents.
* Previous experience working with secondary school-aged children, preferably in an educational setting.
* Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, and a compassionate approach to supporting young people.
* Understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures in a school context is essential. All candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
