Will be the clinical and managerial lead for the Sexual Health department at Walsall Manor Hospital.
Will take responsibility for the clinical and budgetary management of the ward/department and the provision of nursing care.
Will undertake clinical duties.
Will act as Deputy to the Matron. Acts in a manner that upholds the values of the Trust and that of the profession ensuring that service delivered contributes to supporting the principles of clinical governance.
Main duties of the job
1. Act as a Clinical Nurse / leader to ensure the needs of patients are recognised and met by the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
2. Act as a point of liaison for multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working in order to achieve the best possible outcome for patient care particularly working with Commissioners.
3. Provide registered nurse support to junior nursing staff.
4. Accountable and responsible for accurate and legible record keeping in accordance with local policies and NMC guidelines.
5. Sexual history taking, genital examination, family planning and cervical cytology.
6. Maintain a safe level of nursing staff, taking remedial action and escalating where appropriate.
7. Co-ordinate, in conjunction with the Matron, the selection of staff and monitoring of sickness and absence.
8. Individual Performance Review of staff within the ward / department.
9. Responsible for the maintenance of the department budgets ensuring resources are put to the most efficient and effective use to meet the needs of the patients and the department.
10. May act as a deputy for the Matron when requested.
11. Validate and disseminate any Sexual Health National Targets including the 48 hour access target and the GUM CAD report.
12. Ensure accurate input into the Sexual Health Computer System, to address any shortfalls and implement changes for example Electronic Patient Records and liaise directly with the supplier of the computer system.

Job responsibilities

2. Act as a point of liaison for multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working in order to achieve the best possible outcome for patient care. Will take appropriate action to remedy any deficiencies in service provision from other agencies.
3. Provide registered nurse support to junior nursing staff.
4. Maintain the Trust’s aims and objectives within the clinical setting.
5. Accountable and responsible for accurate and legible record keeping in accordance with local policies and NMC guidelines.
6. Administer intravenous drugs in accordance with Trust policies.
7. Undertake additional training as required to meet the needs of the patients and register any additional skills acquired as a result of enhanced practice.
8. Sexual history taking.
9. Genital examination.

12. Maintain a safe level of nursing staff, taking remedial action and reporting to Matron when this cannot be achieved.

17. Be involved in any quality assurance initiatives within the clinic and ensure that all actions are carried out within the Clinical Directorates overall strategy and statement of purpose.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered nurse with UK professional registration.
* STIF course (Sexual transmitted infection foundation course).
* Family Planning Course 901 or equivalent.
* Specialist Clinical course or equivalent experience.
* Clinical Leadership course or relevant leadership experience.
* Counselling Course.
Knowledge and Experience
* Evidence of relevant experience in the speciality of Sexual Health.
* Knowledge of managing a commissioned based service and understanding of public health initiatives.
* Able to demonstrate working knowledge of H&S, infection control, clinical risk management issues.
* Must have an understanding of the need to assess the quality of service delivery inclusive of policy generation and audit and benchmarking activity.
* Demonstrable, recent experience within speciality at Band 6 or above.
* Must be able to participate in the education and development of all staff, advice and counsel, evidence of involvement in training programmes in their current role.
Skills
* Venepuncture.
* STI screening tests.
* Use and development of PGDs.
* Cervical screening.
