The City of St Albans Swimming Club (CoStA) based in Hertfordshire is looking for an Assistant Performance Coach to join our coaching team on a part-time basis. The role will include morning and evening training sessions as well as attending some competitions at weekends. We can be flexible to try to accommodate a mutually beneficial working pattern. This position may lead to full-time employment (or additional hours) and potentially leading a competitive squad in the future.
Background
CoStA is a SwimMark-accredited competitive swimming club based in St Albans, Hertfordshire. We have approximately 350 members encompassing all ages and abilities including pre-competitive, club, County, Regional, National and Masters swimmers. A vacancy has arisen for an Assistant Performance Coach to support our senior coaching team in delivering/supporting sessions for the performance squads. The successful candidate will work closely with the senior coaches in developing the club and be an active member of a small team of coaches, volunteers and poolside helpers. A strong background in competitive swimming experience would be a great asset. Also, a good knowledge of competition locally and the structure of swimming from teaching to coaching would be favourable. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, have good time management skills and must work well as a part of a team.
Main responsibilities:
* Assist with the coaching of performance squads- County to National level swimmers
* Cover coach sickness/holidays for all competitive squads
* Attend relevant competitions, open meets and club events
* Contribute to the development of the Club’s Programme within SwimMark guidelines to ensure continued success as a competitive swimming club at all levels.
* Run pre/post pool and land training on occasion
* Attend continuing professional development (CPD), training and meetings as required
Qualifications, skills and experience
* Be a dynamic coach able to lead by example and motivate, develop and encourage age group and senior swimmers.
* Have experience working with swimmers at minimum county level
* Work well as a member of a team
* Have excellent communication and organisational skills
* Have a minimum of 2 years coaching experience
* Hold a Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate or ASA Level 2 Coaching Award (or be close to completing SE Coach Certificate)
* National Pool Lifeguard Qualification/National Rescue Award for Teachers and Coaches [NPLQ/NRASTC] – Can be obtained once in post
