Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our progressive community midwifery services at the RSCH and PRH sites of UHSussex!
This position is predominantly for Team Leader of the Continuity of Care teams. To ensure women and people accessing care from these teams receive high quality, contemporary and family-centered services. To ensure the smooth day-to-day provision of care, encompassing National Agendas, to lead by example and provide clinical supervision. However, you will be working within the small team of community leaders and as such will be involved in the day-to-day running of community midwifery service in general. Our team leaders do cover the patch that is served by both RSCH and PRH hospitals, so cross-site working is required.
The post holder will take overall responsibility for the CofC teams, working closely with other health professionals to ensure individual packages of care are created to maximize best practice.
Build collaborative relationships with teams and MSW.
Liaise with admin staff, other community team leaders and the MDT to ensure smooth running of CofC midwifery care provision.
Oversee rostering, appraisals, annual leave requests and other HR related duties for the CofC teams.
Work closely with Specialist midwives e.g. mental health midwives, safeguarding, diabetes to ensure good communication pathways to share information about service users whose needs span more than one specialty.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Assess, identify and evaluate own knowledge and practice needs in relation to knowledge and skills required to meet the demand of the role.
2. Understand the team member's role and scope of practice. Identify development needs and take responsibility for their continuing professional development and performance.
3. Make effective use of appropriate learning opportunities for others.
4. Act as a role model and support professional development of all students and junior staff.
5. Exercise effective managerial and clinical leadership of the team.
6. Support the implementation of induction programmes, preceptorship and PMA input.
7. Responsible for organization and operational management of continuity of carer teams.
8. Responsible for day-to-day line management of band 5/6 midwives and maternity support workers/care assistants in continuity of carer teams.
9. Responsible for day-to-day supervision, allocation and coordination of clinically based teams ensuring adequate cover and skill mix for the 24/7 period.
10. Ensure continuity of carer team members attend statutory and mandatory training days.

Experience
* BSc or relevant experience
* Leadership qualification or relevant experience
* Proven experience in a variety of midwifery settings
* Further training/qualifications relevant to the post (example: managerial/leadership qualifications; high risk midwifery post reg modules)
* Teaching experience
