What will you be doing
As the Learning Design & Curriculum Manager at Avantis, you will be the voice of educators within our Content Team, ensuring that all ClassVR content is developed in line with best educational practices to serve our audience, whilst pushing the boundaries of immersive learning.
You will manage a team of Content Writers and work closely with the Creative Technical Producer, 3D Design Team, and Developers to ensure that Avantis continues to deliver high-quality educational content that aligns with global curriculum standards and pedagogical best practices.
Key responsibilities will include
1. Team Management: Manage a team of Content Writers to create, curate and manage a library of exciting and curriculum-aligned content, from immersive VR experiences to written materials, ensuring all content maintains the highest standards and usability in a classroom. You will design, review and approve briefs, copy, lesson plans and all associated educational materials.
2. Content Management: Maintain, monitor, improve and update content management across the ClassVR platform. Manage new content releases, working cross-departmentally to optimise the visibility and usability of content.
3. Content Development: Alongside the Creative Technical Producer, develop and maintain a slate of educationally impactful and globally resonant content ideas to sit on the ClassVR platform. Collaborate and manage a network of subject matter experts and institutions to research, write, and design engaging, pedagogically sound lesson plans, activities, and content briefs suitable for Virtual Reality, and practical use in a classroom.
4. Learning Design: Own the learning design of all content through development, whilst overseeing the production phase to ensure content delivers on learning objectives and outcomes. Work closely with the production team to provide insights on the educational impact of VR content, whilst ensuring that all content and features are aligned with global and regional curriculum standards, making the platform relevant and useful for schools worldwide.
5. Educational Strategy: Help to drive the educational strategy of ClassVR, working with Product, Sales, and Marketing to ensure the learning design of content meets the evolving needs of students, schools and educators. Stay informed about emerging trends in VR and educational technology to continuously enhance learning experiences.
6. Feedback & Insights: Gather feedback from educators and students to inform product development and content updates, ensuring the platform continuously improves to meet classroom needs.
7. Thought Leadership: Represent ClassVR at education conferences, webinars, and workshops, sharing insights on the role of immersive technologies in education and building relationships with thought leaders in the sector. Stay updated on industry trends and innovations to inform design and teaching practices.
Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications
1. Significant experience in education, ideally with additional experience in learning/instructional design for educational content creation in virtual reality, immersive technologies or the gaming industry.
2. Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required. A master’s degree or EdTech certification is desirable.
3. Extensive knowledge of the US and UK education system and standards, coupled with a broad understanding of international education systems (IB, PISA, TIMSS).
4. Demonstrable experience applying NGSS and CCSS to produce high quality lesson plans and educational materials.
5. Experience integrating technology into education, with specific experience or interest in VR, AR or immersive technologies.
6. Experience managing and mentoring a team.
7. Broad knowledge of global pedagogy and educational trends in both education practice and emerging theory.
8. First-class English written and verbal communication. Strong narrative and journalistic skills, meticulous writing and attention to detail. Able to write, review, and edit punchy and engaging copy and produce first class lesson plans and learning materials for students and teachers.
9. Strong project management skills, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work cross-functionally within a busy production environment.
10. Familiarity with educational technology platforms, LMS systems and digital content creation tools.
11. Demonstrated success in developing and delivering creative content/tech projects or educational initiatives into classrooms.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Hands-on experience using VR or AR in a classroom setting.
2. Experience working with diverse curricula across different educational systems (K-12, higher education, etc.).
3. A network of connections within the education industry, including teachers, administrators and education thought leaders.
4. Experience presenting at education conferences or facilitating workshops.
5. Creative flair, with the ability to develop and communicate ideas in visually compelling ways.
6. Experience using project management tools; Jira, Confluence, Trello, Asana.
