The young lady enjoys a wide variety of activities such as swimming, tobogganing, cinema, eating in restaurants, joining in at community activities and most especially enjoys going for long walks (particularly in the rain as LOVES jumping in puddles),
Shifts will be agreed/scheduled in advance (at times, flexibility in hours may be required).
Main Duties
Interacting with the young lady whilst providing essential support with her social skills; enabling her to access various activities such as walking, swimming, youth groups and restaurants.
There will be some elements of personal care from time to time for instance assisting with toileting plus assisting her through showering process as well as with dressing after swimming.
Person Specification
An active and energetic person with a good sense of humour.
Flexibility around main duties of the job and hours of work.
Caring, honest, responsible and patient with reliable good timekeeping.
Good communication and inter-personal skills are crucial.
An ability to develop and maintain a supportive relationship.
Proactive individual with willingness to gain a working knowledge of autism.
Able to maintain confidentiality and be aware of privacy.
Important Information
This young lady can, at times, display very challenging physical behaviours associated with autism.
Requires 2 carers at all times providing continuous support and supervision (critical and absolutely without exception).
Training will be provided to support you in your role (due to her unpredictability, having a routine/clear approach is crucial for a non-eventful excursion).
As it imperative for the young lady that a scheduled excursion goes ahead, when one of the 2 carers is no longer able to attend due to illness for instance, her mother would step in to help/provide support with remaining scheduled carer.
However, her mother would assist in a purely secondary capacity; the carer would take lead and interact with the young lady (this scenario would only occur when no other team members were available to step in/cover at short notice).
The work consists of 3-hour shifts generally 3 times per week during term-time directly after school starting at 4pm in Llanelli (may be occasional weekend shift).
In addition, there will be longer shifts during school holidays and half-terms for excursions such as Folly Farm (generally, an 8-hour shift twice per week particularly during the summer holidays).
A full driving license and use of a car may be required (must have business use on your insurance to be able to use the vehicle within working hours).
Appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check which will incur no cost to the applicant. If you have an online update DBS, you have a greater chance of becoming shortlisted for this position as this can help the employer to recruit much quicker.
