Based in Walsall and reporting to the Group Head of Finance - Trading, this permanent role involves collaborating with the Commercial Buying & Merchandising teams across the Group and the wider Pepco finance teams across the UK and Europe. You will work closely with various key stakeholders from Pepco Group and the different brands. Your impact and responsibilities Support and Challenge Performance: Improve profitability and working capital across the FMCG commercial function, focusing on sales, margin, retros, and other margin items from a P&L perspective, as well as stock and stock provision from a working capital perspective. Introduce a consistent and challenging performance review process with the Trading teams to review monthly FMCG category P&Ls and stock positions. Act as the Commercial Finance lead to drive cost efficiencies regarding the cost of sales and other margin items. Influence the Trading strategy through your knowledge and experience of the Commercial function. Lead Process Improvements: Enhance reporting, performance review, forecasting, and budgeting processes to ensure they are appropriate and fit for purpose. Ensure consistency across reporting and performance review processes within the Group. Review and improve the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes to achieve the most efficient and effective outcomes. Work closely with Commercial Finance Controllers for Retail, Distribution, and Financial Planning & Analysis to share best practices. Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and challenge a team of three, including 1 Finance Business Partner and two Commercial Finance Analysts, to address core issues and deliver key processes. Develop team members to maximise their potential and ensure they have clear, specific, and manageable objectives. Skills and Knowledge Qualifications: Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent). Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, ratios, metrics, budgeting, forecasting, and data analytics tools such as Power BI. Knowledge of retail operations, supply chain dynamics, and key performance indicators such as sales per square foot, average transaction value, and gross margin. Familiarity with inventory management, including turnover, carrying costs, and valuation methods. Experience: Proven success in leading and managing Commercial Finance teams. Experience in a multi-site environment, with retail sector experience preferable. Demonstrable experience in delivering objectives with a good understanding of processes and leading teams through significant changes. Skills: Drive, enthusiasm, and tenacity to deliver targets. Effective planning and implementation skills, with a strong ability to make things happen. Well-developed business partnering skills to overcome concerns in a fast-paced and changing environment. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact well with others and present information clearly. Strong leadership and strategic planning abilities, with experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing projects.
