Description Job Title: Cloud Development Manager Grade and Salary: Grade 8 (£46,735 - £57,422) FTE and Working Pattern: Full time, open-ended Organisation Name: Global Information Services Directorate Purpose of Role The successful candidate will have extensive experience of supporting and developing cloud services and infrastructure in a Microsoft Azure cloud environment. They will play a key technical role in a number of exciting projects including the Digital Student Experience Programme moving the Student Records system into Azure, Data & Insights, the procurement of a new virtual server infrastructure and the further development of our Certificate infrastructure which is becoming increasingly important as we roll out a new network utilising the HP Aruba and ClearPass technologies. Migration and re-architecture of on premises infrastructure to an Azure cloud environment will also be a requirement of the role. The role will: Lead the Cloud Architecture Group within the Cloud & Datacenter team Help inform the overall GIS Cloud Strategy to meet the strategic aims of the University Identify the best cloud architecture solutions and implement cloud environments to meet the strategic aims of GIS Work with stakeholders to propose, design, and implement cloud solutions to best meet their requirements or those of the project Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of Datacenter solutions including virtualization, servers and backup systems Work closely with the Cyber Security and Compliance team to ensure Cloud and Datacenter solutions are secure and effective Work with external service providers and support vendors providing assistance and helping to resolve issues that arise keeping disruption to key services to a minimum Key Duties and Responsibilities Design, implement and maintain cloud environments utilizing primarily Azure but including other Cloud Providers Line manage the other members of the Cloud Architecture Group (1-2 people) Monitor systems and make sure they are running as expected; troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise Document procedures and share important information with team members regarding setting up, configuring systems and overcoming issues that arise Liaise with user groups and set up new servers and upgrades as required either in the on premise or cloud environments Carry out operating system upgrades working alongside user groups Respond and carry out support requests for staff and students coming in via helpdesk ticketing system Education, Qualifications & Experience Essential Educated to first degree level, relevant professional certification or equivalent practical experience in the workplace Minimum of 3 years experience designing, implementing and managing Cloud Environments, ideally in a Microsoft Azure environment A minimum of 3 years experience working with server and virtualization technologies Experience of working with firewalls and networking technologies, especially in a Microsoft Azure environment Ability to write documentation and user guides in a clear, concise format that is understandable by both technical staff and end users Excellent level of IT literacy and comfortable working with professionals in other specialisms Good track record of developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external customers, peers, stakeholders and others Proven ability to solve technical or logistical problems Excellent communication and interpersonal skills About our Team The Global Information Services (GIS) directorate provides a range of services to support, promote and supply information, information skills and infrastructure to support a modern research-intensive university in a global setting.
