Introduction
The Head of the BBC’s Generative AI Hub is responsible for leading the BBC’s approach to Gen AI-enabled innovation across the BBC – helping the BBC to make the most of Generative AI capabilities, to improve how it works, and to maximise the value it offers audiences.
The post-holder will work closely with all BBC divisions to develop ideas that make the most of Generative AI’s potential to address business challenges and opportunities. This will include both the deployment of Generative AI technology but also changes to relevant workflows and ways of working. The team will help divisions test, iterate and evaluate propositions; and support scaling into BAU where appropriate. All work will support our commitment to deploying AI safely and responsibly, and in line with our Editorial Standards and values.
The role reports to the BBC Programme Director for Generative AI and manages a multidisciplinary team which will comprise of business analyst, project management, data science, UX and software skills.
The team is likely to make significant use of prototyping, rapid evolution, change methodologies and robust cost-benefit frameworks to ensure the best ideas progress quickly.
In delivering the work of the team, the role will work closely with a wide array of teams across the BBC including but not limited to R&D, Product; Business Affairs, Corporate and Editorial teams Great working relationships will be vital to success.
Responsibilities
• Defines, develops and delivers a pipeline of value propositions that deliver on divisional and corporate goals.
• Effectively communicates the work of the team and the opportunity of Gen AI
• Ensures that value propositions are prioritised against the BBC’s corporate strategy “Value for All” and related divisional strategies.
• Leads the process that delivers problem definition, value proposition development, identifies success criteria and prototypes solutions including changes to workflows.
• Builds strong relationships both within and outside the BBC.
• Engages with the industry to keep up to date with tech development and application of Generative AI
• Recognised as the subject matter expert on Gen AI technology, use and development of value propositions.
• Builds and manages a high performing team. Achieves organisational goals while staying within budget and constraints
• Contributes to the BBC’s wider work on Generative AI.
Are you the right candidate
• Expertise in leading innovation projects or similar, particularly in generative AI or related fields; and a with a focus of transforming how media organisation’s work.
• Entrepreneurial approach
• Significant experience delivering change and innovation within large, complex organisations.
• Deep understanding of generative AI tools, their applications, and implications for the media industry.
• Proven ability to manage and develop multidisciplinary teams, including analysts, transformation experts, data scientists, UX designers, engineers and change managers.
• Strong track record of delivering impactful innovation activity that were scaled by business
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience engaging at all organisational levels.
• Understanding of the media industry, its challenges, and opportunities for innovation through AI.
• 3+ years leading innovation in complex organisations (preferably media), working with senior stakeholders across multiple divisions.
• Proven ability to prioritise ruthlessly against organisational goals and deliver measurable impact to corporate strategy.
• Strong track record in transformation making use of new technology.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams, including business improvement, software, UX, and design.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management, with a demonstrable ability to build cases for change and drive rapid adoption of AI solutions.
