This job attracts an additional 10% Warsash Maritime School weighting to the salary shown.
Are you working as a nurse, medical practitioner, Royal Navy Warrant Officer Medic, EMT or offshore/ambulance paramedic and ideally have some experience in the maritime industry?
Are you seeking a new opportunity that offers something alternative to shifts and weekend working?
Are you eager and highly motivated to teach others?
If so, this could be for you!
Who we are:
As a part of Warsash Maritime School (Southampton Solent University), Safety Training provides commercial education, training, and consultancy services to the international maritime and offshore industries. We are based at the Warsash Campus (SO31 9ZL) and train students from cadet to Master level, including professional yachtsmen, in the 4 Safety Training portfolio areas:
1. Fire Fighting Maritime (Survival craft, Sea survival, and Fast Rescue Boat)
2. Medical (first aid and medical care)
3. Offshore (including Helicopter Underwater Escape training (HUET))
Our Vacancy:
We have a vacancy for a Full Time Medical and First Aid Lecturer to teach primarily (but not limited to) STCW short medical courses ranging from 1-day Elementary First Aid to 5-day Proficiency in Medical Care at our Warsash Campus. Subject to previous qualifications and experience (and with appropriate training), the successful candidate may also be asked to assist on Maritime pool and pier courses.
Our Medical and First Aid Lecturer:
1. Delivers the medical portfolio courses and assists in the creation of innovative and interactive teaching programmes for this area.
2. Teaches medical theory and practical sessions in class on a flexible basis as the scheduled timetable requires.
3. Delivers First Aid at Work staff training to Safety Training colleagues and others within the wider University.
4. Liaises with, and deputises where necessary, for the Medical Course Manager.
5. Assists with maintenance of all medical equipment on site.
6. Teaches other non-medical courses as commensurate with prior experience and by agreement.
The successful candidate:
You don’t have to be an experienced maritime medical/first aid lecturer/instructor (although it certainly helps if you are!) – first and foremost we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated medical professional with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to join our team.
Very occasionally, unsocial hours and UK/international travel may be required as we periodically undertake consultancy work away from our Warsash campus base.
Interview date and content:
If shortlisted, interviews will be conducted on Tuesday 14th January 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be required to present a 10-minute presentation entitled: ‘Managing Seafarer Mental Health’ and be able to answer any questions from the interview panel regarding the presentation.

Closing date: 1 January 2025.
