We are looking to recruit a Deputy Head of Operations, who will report into the Head of Operations. The successful candidate will provide day to day management and leadership to the depot operations team. Transport UK London Bus operates bus services across London on behalf of TFL, plus rail replacement and event services across the UK. We operate over nine per cent of the London bus network, running c800 vehicles and employing around 2,700 employees across six depots in Central, South and West London. We run a number of routes, carrying over 150 million passengers a year on TfL’s contracted bus network. Principal Responsibilities and Authorities: To proactively manage all aspects of depot operations to produce consistent results in the key performance indicators of safety, customer experience, sickness absence, financial performance, route performance, lost mileage and compliance in line with specified targets, contractual obligations and commercial objectives. To actively engage with our employees to improve employee engagement, morale and driver performance. To develop the local teams and ensure devolved accountability is truly embedded. To carry out appropriate appeal hearings in accordance with our policies and procedures. To work proactively with colleagues in all other departments, especially engineering and performance, to ensure the excellent core performance of the business (triangle working). To cover for the Head of Operations during periods of leave. The successful candidate Must have excellent communication skills both oral and written. Must have experience in managing and motivating a team to achieve high standards of performance. Must have a flexible approach to working hours with the ability to respond to “on call” situations. Self-motivated, proactive and organised with good time management skills. Demonstrable experience in conducting investigative interviews, casework preparation and hearing cases and appeals. Must have IOSH qualifications (training will be provided if not). Ideally holds a Certificate of Professional Competence – Transport Manager (training will be provided if not). Previous experience of reducing incident rates and improving safety culture is a plus. Experience in unionised environment is advantageous.
