We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist/Psychological Therapist to lead our Cardiac Psychology Service, based in the well-established Clinical Health Psychology Department within Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT).
Main duties of the job
The role involves:
* Provision of specialist psychological assessment and therapies to patients under BTHFT Cardiac Services.
* Operational management of the Cardiac Psychology Service.
* Indirect consultation to the Cardiac MDT.
* Input to the community-based Cardiac Rehabilitation Group programme.
Job responsibilities
To provide specialist psychological input to patients based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, clinical observation and clinical literature as appropriate.
To formulate and implement plans as appropriate for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client/patient's psychological difficulties, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's/patient's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings. Assessment and treatment can be made more complex by having to work through interpreters.
Person Specification
Experience
* Significant experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist/Psychological therapist with further specialist training/experience.
* Experience of working with a wide range of adults, presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and residential care settings.
* Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for patients' psychological care and treatment, within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
* Experience of delivering teaching, training and clinical supervision.
* Experience of representing Psychology Professions within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
* Experience of working in different cultural contexts.
* Demonstrable interest in and enthusiasm for working with this specific clinical population.
* Experience of working with adults with physical health difficulties.
* Experience of working with adults with significant mental health difficulties (i.e. complex trauma) and/or substance abuse issues.
Skills
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological and systemic assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
* Highly developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
* Skills in providing consultation & supervision to other professional and non-professional groups.
* Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.
* Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
* Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
* Access to vehicle within working hours for cross-site working.
* Skills in the administration and interpretation of neuropsychological assessments.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two highly specialised psychological therapies.
* Knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of applied psychology and systemic psychotherapy.
* Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC.
* Completed post-qualification supervision training.
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the patient group.
Qualifications
* Professional qualifications as appropriate: - DClin Psychol - Masters/PG Dip as relevant to profession: Counsellor; CBT Therapist; Systemic Psychotherapist; Adult Psychotherapist etc.
* Current registration with BPS/ACP/HCPC/UKCP/BABCP as appropriate.
