This is a key role in our Water System team, managing the provision of a hydrological and water resource modelling expertise within the company, Managing the company's water resource and hydrological analysis capabilities to ensure a resilient supply of water for our customers.
Job Accountabilities
* Manage the provision of a hydrological and water resource modelling expertise within the company, managing the company's water resource and hydrological analysis capabilities to ensure a resilient supply of water for our customers
* Ensure water resources are managed sustainably and responsibly, providing the operational plan for resources to Production Planning and Operations.
* Lead in the production of water resources data collaborating with wider teams accountable for abstraction and compensation flow.
* Lead in the implementation of the companies Drought Plan, providing performance forecasting, technical expertise and lead on associated submissions to the Environment Agency or Defra.
* Provide operational support for developing and managing hydrological inputs to UU’s Water Resources Plan, Drought Plan and the water capital investment programme, and maintain the company’s surface water flow records and source yield assessments.
* Manage a water resources modelling function to enable the delivery of capital projects, outages and operational management.
* Manage the delivery of the Drought Risk Resilience ODI, and the Supply Demand Balance Index, ensuring the business has a clear view of the supply demand balance within the coming year.
* Provide regular technical liaison with regulatory colleagues both nationally and regionally to build confidence and assurance in how we are managing water resource assets in the short-medium term
* Act as UU subject matter expert for operational water resource use and outage, ensuring alignment to statutory plans (i.e. WRMP/Drought plan)
* Ensure the hydrological sustainability of assets within AMP to secure customer supply
* Provide hydrological expertise and knowledge in support of delivery of the water services capital investment programme
Knowledge and Skills
* Highly numerate, and possess a high level of competence in statistical data analysis, analytical reasoning, problem solving and planning ability.
* A high level of competence in computer analysis skills, including Access and Excel (or equivalent), is essential for this post.
* Experience of water resource and hydrological modelling and analytical tools.
* Possess strong interpersonal management skills, especially communication, influencing, presentation, negotiating and persuasion skills to successfully manage relationships within the Company and external bodies including stakeholders.
* A degree in a scientific or numerate discipline and a post-graduate degree in hydrology or water resources, together with substantial relevant post-graduate experience in the water industry.
* A good knowledge of hydrology, water resource modelling, water resources planning and management, water resources legislation, yield assessment.
* Experience in water resources modelling.
* A sound understanding of wider water resources/supply management and water industry business principles.
