Location: West Midlands remote and/or office-based, depending on the role.
Hours: 2-4 hours per week for support workers, bid support - based on your availability; social media - 1 - 2 hours per week.
Duration: Minimum commitment of six months
Shanti Aid is a dedicated organisation supporting individuals escaping domestic violence and seeking a fresh start. Our mission is to provide essential support, resources, and community connections to empower individuals and their families to rebuild their lives.
Role Overview - Support Worker
As a Volunteer Support Worker, you will be a crucial first point of contact for individuals reaching out for help. This role requires empathy, patience, and the ability to carefully assess each service user's needs. You will provide support over the phone and in person, helping individuals understand their options, gathering essential information, and signposting them to the appropriate services.
Key Responsibilities - Support Worker
* Respond to calls from individuals seeking support, listening with empathy and understanding.
* Gather personal information securely and confidentially to assess the needs of each service user.
* Offer guidance and signposting to appropriate services, including accommodation support, practical support with benefits applications, and accessing community resources such as healthcare or schools.
* Support service users navigating employment, training, and mental health services.
* Provide signposting to legal services for immigration, divorce, non-molestation and prevention orders.
* Attend the office at least once a week if required.
* Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with data protection regulations.
Key Responsibilities - Social Media Support
* Help maintain social media engagement to raise awareness on social media channels, such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and the website.
* Coordinating community-building activities, such as 'Chai and Chat' events and capturing photos for social media.
Support the fundraising strategy developed by Shanti-Aid by:
* Using your networking skills to build contacts with businesses to support Shanti-Aid with monetary donations, food, or practical assistance, for example, coach companies assisting with day trips for service users. Companies donating time to help deliver food parcels. Organising fundraising activities.
Key Responsibilities - Bid Writers
Depending upon the time available:
* Assist with the development of bids or support with reviewing bids and advising on content.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for compassionate, committed individuals who want to make a real difference. You should be:
* Empathetic, patient and discreet, able to handle sensitive conversations with care while always protecting service user's confidentiality.
* Calm under pressure, ensuring service users feel safe and supported.
* Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail when gathering information and signposting services.
* A good communicator, able to interact with diverse individuals in a clear and supportive manner.
* A resident of the UK based in the West Midlands and aged 18 or over.
* For Social Media Support: Tech savvy! and experience using Canva is desirable
* For Bid Writing: Experience working in a similar role and experience contributing to successful bids is essential
* For Fundraising: Experience in a similar role is essential
