Plant Manager

Job Overview
The Morris & Spottiswood Group are a leading provider of fitout, housing, maintenance and M&E services to the retail, banking, commercial, education, housing and healthcare sectors across Scotland and England. Our offices are based in Glasgow, Livingston, Warrington, Carlisle, London, Bristol, Whitstable and Leeds.
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Plant Manager to oversee the management of our company's plant, vehicle, and personal protective equipment (PPE) processes. This pivotal role will ensure the efficient upkeep and tracking of all company-owned plant, manage external plant hire processes, and maintain accurate vehicle records.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Management
1. Maintain comprehensive records on the asset register.
2. Ensure current PAT testing records for all equipment.
3. Manage the booking in and out of internal plant for projects.
4. Review and record weekly plant sheets to identify action points.
5. Control the on/off hire of external plant equipment.
Commercial Responsibilities
1. Raise purchase orders for all external plant hires and validate costs against procurement rates.
2. Communicate with Site Managers to confirm any necessary extensions to hire periods.
3. Increase purchase order values in line with revised durations.
4. Approve hire invoices for payment, ensuring alignment with purchase order values.
5. Account for loss or damage charges with project manager agreement.
6. Raise orders for short-term van hires as needed.
People Management
1. Build effective relationships with Project and Site Managers.
2. Foster a leadership style that reflects the company's culture and values.
3. Promote a positive team environment, offering guidance and support to operations teams.
4. Support a unified business culture through open communication.
Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental (HSQE)
1. Ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
2. Uphold the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental management.
3. Maintain QA/QC processes and standards, implementing appropriate management systems and procedures.
4. Issue and track PPE and workwear distribution, documenting results for each operative.
General Responsibilities
1. Engage in learning and development activities to enhance personal effectiveness.
2. Adhere to the Employee Handbook and company processes.
3. Maintain a flexible and proactive approach to additional duties supporting wider business needs.
Performance Measures
1. Minimise unknown plant hire overruns.
2. Eliminate lost internal plant with no accountability.
3. Ensure vehicles remain operational and on the road.
Qualifications
1. Previous experience in plant and transport management or a related field.
2. Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
4. Knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance standards.
5. Proficient in using asset management and procurement systems.
