Role Title: Regional Course Lead: Business
Reporting to: Course Leader, HND Business
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £35,000 - £37,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday
Purpose of Job
Regional Academic Lead for Level 4/5 Higher National Diploma in Business. Responsible for the academic quality and smooth operation of the course in the regional campus, ensuring that the standards set by the Academy, and the professional regulatory body, are met and maintained, confirming this through internal and external annual monitoring and audit processes. Demonstrating a passion for enthusing and inspiring our students, the holder will support the developing and delivering innovative and flexible range of learning and teaching materials with the Course leader that provide high quality, accessible learning opportunities and an exceptional student experience.
Key Accountabilities
• To support the programme Course Leader in designing, developing, and producing learning and teaching material and delivering either across a range of modules or within a subject area.
• To ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching courses in accordance with the Academy’s strategy, policy, and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning Support
• Support the programme Course Leader with the design, development, and delivery of a range of programs of study at Level 4/5 or above.
• Support the programme Course Leader to review on a regular basis course content and materials and updating as/when required.
• Support the programme Course Leader to develop and apply appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.
• Ensure that course design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the Academy.
Management of Teaching and Learning Resources
* Management of contents and curriculum to ensure that Academic staff adheres to the awarding organisations delivery guidelines in the specification
* Ensure that all the teaching and learning resources for the canvas are up to date
Liaison and Networking
* Support the Course leader in leading and developing internal networks for example by chairing and participating in Exam Board meetings, progress board and Assessment Boards.
* Support the programme Course Leader in leading and developing external networks for example with external examiners and assessors.
* Support Course Leader to work with the Quality Manager to ensure that all internal quality processes of the Academy are followed at the regional levels
* Support Course leader to work closely with other regional Academic lead to ensure that student experiences in all the regionals are the same
Managing People
* Support the programme Course Leader by providing academic leadership to those working within program areas, by for example coordinating the work of others to ensure that courses are delivered effectively or organising the work of a team by agreeing objectives and work plans.
* Contributing to the development of teams and individuals.
* Act as a personal mentor to peers and colleagues.
Quality Assurance
* Support the Course Leader in leading the programme and ensure that all quality assurance processes in relation to teaching learning and assessment of the delivery at the regional level are adhere to.
* To liaise with Course Manager to implement all quality assurance processes at the regional level to ensure high standard of teaching learning and Assessment
* Support the Course Manager to Implement external Verifier recommendations and actions at the regional level
* To take part in regional level programme leadership meetings to ensure that, the delivery of teaching, learning and assessment at regional levels is in line with Academy’s ethos and standards
* Informs Course Leader if there is disagreement between internal verifier and Assessor
* Requests extension of assignment deadlines in consultation with Course leader
* Ensures that student receives Assignment support whether individually or as a group
* Ensures that Records are kept in a form of individual learning plan for at risks students or student who requires continuous support
* Ensures that Records are kept for extenuating circumstances, Academic review and Plagiarism
Teamwork
• Lead teams within areas of responsibility.
• Help to ensure that teams within the department work together.
• Participate to help resolve conflicts within and between teams.
• Lead teams to work closely with other HND Business delivery teams within UK Pastoral care
• Responsible for dealing with referred issues for students within own programs.
• Provide first line support for colleagues, referring them to sources of further help if required.
Initiative, problem-solving and decision-making
• Resolve problems affecting the delivery of courses within own educational program and in accordance with regulations.
• Make decisions regarding the operational aspects of own educational program.
• Spotting opportunities for strategic development of employer partnerships or appropriate areas of activity and contributing to the development of such ideas
• To undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may well be required by the Course Leader and HE Curriculum Lead within a reasonable workload and which are consistent with the role of Academic Regional lead.
Planning and managing resources
• Be involved through various routes in departmental level strategic planning and contribute to the Institution’s strategic planning processes.
• Plan and deliver research and other modules within the constraints of resources available with the Course leader and other regional Academic leads
• Contribute to the management of quality, audit, and other external assessments. Sensory, physical, and emotional demands.
• Take responsibility for conducting risk assessments and reducing hazards during industrial/company visits.
Person Specification
• Experience of delivering effective learning, teaching, and assessment at Further/Higher Levels.
• Demonstrable experience of successful curriculum development.
• Demonstrable experience of effectively designing and implementing a range of formative and summative assessments for programs.
• Significant experience of excellent teaching identified by observation or peer review. • Proven experience of module and program leadership.
• Experience of HR duties, such as delivering training and taking part in the recruitment process.
• Experience of data management and interpretation, and quality assurance • Availability to operate across several business units
Qualifications
• A Bachelor qualification in Business Management or Entrepreneurship or relevant qualifications or experience.
• Relevant teaching Qualification in Further /Higher Education
•Relevant vocational /industrial experience in Entrepreneurship and Small business
• Relevant Assessor Qualification (Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement) - desirable
• Relevant IQA Qualification (Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice) - desirable
Expertise
• Required to be an externally recognised authority in the subject area.
• In-depth understanding of own entrepreneurial specialism to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding both within the industry, or through teaching.
• In IQA / IV processes with relevant qualification.
