Are you looking for a new role within Health & Safety? Our Client is looking for an experienced H&S Advisor working on sites within the South East of England, namely Southampton, Portsmouth, and Basingstoke.
Health and Safety Advisor Role Overview:
The role of Health and Safety Advisor is to report to the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager. They will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and delivering health and safety procedures on site. They will be involved in writing method statements, risk assessments (fire risk, COSHH, vibration, and noise), construction phase plans, and policy documents with the guidance of the HS&E Manager.
The Health and Safety Advisor will liaise with all work levels, including site management, whereby they will be expected to work with them to prepare and review necessary health and safety risk assessments as well as deliver health and safety policy and procedures. They will advise and guide all site personnel regarding the implementation and delivery of the H&S internal management system.
The ideal candidate must have a full, clean driving license as there will be traveling between sites in Portsmouth, Southampton, and Basingstoke.
Health and Safety Advisor Role Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the skills and knowledge of site staff are maintained by identifying where training or requalification is required (in line with the company training matrix).
2. Monitor and report on site activities during regular site visits.
3. Liaise with clients or other stakeholders and attend meetings as required.
4. Support the investigation and reporting of incidents to identify root causes, recommend actions, and ensure actions are delivered to prevent re-occurrence.
5. Prepare and distribute regular health and safety alerts as required.
6. Liaise with technical, quality, and contracts departments to ensure procedures and manuals include all relevant H&S requirements.
7. Assist with the ongoing maintenance of the H&S internal management system and maintaining certifications for ISO 9001 and 14001.
8. Deputise for the H&S Manager when required.
9. Attend pre-start site surveys, project handover meetings, and ongoing project meetings as required.
10. Attend regular H&S review meetings.
11. Work with the H&S Manager to prepare H&S strategies and internal policies and ensure all project management staff are aware of company policies and procedures.
12. Carry out H&S inspections and audits on a regular and ad hoc basis to monitor compliance with company procedures.
13. Assist the site teams with closing out issues identified during inspections or audits.
14. Ensure any breaches in procedures and hazards are identified, corrected, and flagged to the site team.
15. Ensure incidents, accidents, and near misses are recorded and reported as per company procedures.
16. Keep up to date with relevant changes in legislation, regulations, and industry requirements and best practices.
17. Write method statements and risk assessments where required.
18. Support site management in the production, review, and implementation of project management plans, construction phase plans, and project H&S documentation.
19. Liaise with client representatives, other stakeholders, and sub-contractors to establish good working relationships in relation to health, safety, and environmental management of sites.
Health and Safety Advisor Skills & Qualifications:
1. A good working knowledge and experience of ISO 9001 and 14001.
2. Detailed knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
3. Working knowledge of all major health and safety legislation, including the Work at Height Regulations 2005, and knowledge of TG20-21 and SG4 NASC requirements.
4. Experience of SSIP schemes and the maintenance of company accreditations.
5. Experience of delivering training and presentations.
6. IOSH (preferable).
7. NEBOSH Certificate in Construction.
8. NEBOSH Fire Certificate would be advantageous but not essential.
9. NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent / GradIOSH would be advantageous but not essential.
10. A good understanding and experience of the construction and insulation industry.
11. CSCS card.
12. Competent user of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook.
13. Knowledge and use of iAuditor software would be advantageous but not essential.
