The Role of the Mechanical Technician Undertake the manufacturing process within the team area of responsibility to ensure that departmental objectives and targets are achieved. Ensure high standards of health & safety, act within the team to continuously improve safety standards and practice and will identify and develop safety Initiatives within the team. Undertake designated responsibilities under statutory regulations. Develop and initiate process improvements within the team. Work as part of an of a team. Ensure the team resources are effectively deployed, work carried out efficiently, to set safety standards and reported back effectively on the INFOR system. Assess self-performance and develop, implement and review appropriate training plans to ensure individual optimum performance. Ensure effective communications within the team and between other teams Ensure that the team leader is the first point of contact for individual team member’s problems and queries and will ensure that appropriate issues are resolved to ensure the smooth operation of the team with minimum disruption. Requirements of the Mechanical Technician Essential Requirements of the Mechanical Technician Recognised Mechanical apprenticeship (HNC/ONC level or equivalent) Previous experience of PPM and reporting of PPM activities and breakdowns Previous experience Mechanical maintenance of handling equipment, pumps and pipework systems Previous experience of maintenance of Gearbox’s and coupling systems A good understanding and knowledge of Health Safety Legislation with experience of adhering to SWP’s, risk assessments, procedures and permit systems Desirable Requirements of the Mechanical Technician The role requires a candidate to be fully conversant with mechanical aspects of a rolling mill and associated plant and equipment. Mechanical experience of heavy manufacturing industry and use of mechanical equipment, specialist tools, lifting equipment for example Basic hydraulic, welding and pipefitting Good level of problem solving awareness with an ability to fault find of pneumatic and hydraulic systems Experience of crane maintenance Experience of working in confined spaces and at heights The Working Pattern of the Mechanical Technician This is a day shift role 8am -4pm including weekends.
