An exciting opportunity at the University of Manchester Library
The University of Manchester is seeking an exceptional individual to lead our Research Indicators Service as the Open Research Analytics Architect. In this pivotal role, you will provide high-level expertise on bibliometrics and research analytics, with a strong focus on evaluating both the performance and openness of the University's research, directly supporting our commitment to open, responsible research practices alongside traditional benchmarking objectives.
The University of Manchester Library is one of only five National Research Libraries and the third largest academic library in the UK. Our vast and rich collections help us to deliver a world-class library and information service for The University of Manchester. While our primary objective is to meet the learning, teaching and research needs of University members, we are also fully committed to widening access to our services to individual researchers, local schools and others in the regional community.
About the role
As Open Research Analytics Architect, you will:
* Lead the Library's provision of institutional, faculty, school and individual research analysis and reporting
* Develop and implement comprehensive metrics that evaluate research performance, quality, and impact
* Conduct sophisticated bibliometric and related modelling exercises across all levels of the University
* Bring data-driven insights, commentary and recommendations to senior decision-makers, including the Research Strategy Group and Global University Rankings Taskforce
* Prepare strategic reports that guide the University Executive Group's decision-making
* Work closely with the Directorate of Research and Business Engagement and the Directorate of Planning to analyse research performance
* Shape how the University responsibly measures and enhances its research impact
* Represent the University in national and international research activities related to bibliometrics
Your impact
You will ensure the University fully leverages bibliometrics in both external and internal evaluation of research quality. By promoting a deeper understanding of bibliometrics and their role in research evaluation, you'll help position the University at the forefront of research analytics innovation.
Your expertise in bibliometrics and all relevant indicators of research performance, rigour, openness and impact will be instrumental in advancing the University's research strategy, including our commitment to responsible metrics and Open Research principles.
Support and collaboration
You'll work closely with the Head of the Office for Open Research to provide strategic leadership for the University's approach to research analytics. Colleagues from the Office for Open Research and the wider Library's Collections Strategies Directorate will support you, ensuring researcher needs regarding bibliometric data are incorporated into service development.
This is a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution at a world-class research library within one of the UK's leading universities, helping to shape a more responsible research culture. We look forward to hearing from you.
