The Allwyn UK Communications team’s mission is two-fold, to promote and protect the reputation of Allwyn UK as the custodian of The National Lottery, and to create excitement and a positive landscape for The National Lottery to flourish.

ROLE PURPOSE:
The Consumer Communications Manager, is responsible for helping to make The National Lottery relevant and exciting for modern Britain, with a particular focus on helping to create high impact, high reach campaigns. Your ability to demonstrate great media relationships, combined with crafting, pitching and landing creative, data and insight-, visual storytelling in the media, will play a key role in raising the profile of our campaigns and creating excitement and trust in The National Lottery and its ability to change lives every day.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
As the Consumer Communications Manager, you will:
* Work as part of a team planning delivery of consumer PR initiatives to help proactively develop and implement appropriate campaigns. Helping to build greater awareness of key cultural moments and the way in which Allwyn and The National Lottery are changing lives for the better
* Proactively spot and drive cultural stories and campaigns that have high levels of shareability, i.e. those that are easily understood by target audiences, tap into cultural relevance and create a sense of excitement
* Help to manage the annual Communications plans, working with the team, to align on which campaigns to prioritise and how best to deliver, including budgets, timelines, and delivery – and continue to move us forward by bringing fresh thinking to how we reinvigorate our campaign coverage
* Be quick to move - share our appetite for getting ahead of news and great visual storytelling by being on top of the UK’s news agenda and work quickly to insert The National Lottery’s campaigns into moments that matter – e.g. cultural, social and entertainment commentary where The National Lottery has relevancy
* Ensure co-ordination and alignment of PR campaign messaging across multi-platform channels, in partnership with Marketing, Digital, Corporate Communications and other colleagues – working together to repurpose how content travels across different channels
* Manage interviews focused on our campaigns – including briefs, preparing the spokespeople and press releases
* Come with a great contact book and maintain and grow those relationships with key consumer media and journalists; helping to maximise positive news coverage about Allwyn, The National Lottery and our campaigns
* Stay up-to-date on key consumer journalist moves and industry trends
* Stay in-the-know on relevant social influencers; and where relevant, work with stakeholders to include culturally relevant influencers in the delivery of PR campaign activity
* As part of a team, track, analyse and report on consumer PR coverage results, highlighting clear insights and takeaways with actionable recommendations to improve performance
* Work with the Corporate Communications and Internal Communications colleagues to align and handle campaign specific issues and crisis communications, including media inquiries, messaging, proactive planning, etc.
* Ensure Social Value runs as a red thread through everything we say
* Work in partnership with our PR agency partner, when required
* Stay up-to-date on digital communication trends and how AI can influence your work
KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
* Proven results that show increased positive proactive news coverage around our campaigns
* Evidence to show how data and insight-driven decisions and an audience-first approach have delivered greater campaign coverage success
* Creation of content that can deliver across channels to reach target audiences with a social-first campaign thinking
* An effective multi-platform, audience-first approach to getting consumer PR stories out there
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Related job experience in PR, media or journalism
* Established relationships with national, local and media outlets across the consumer press
* Strong media relations and a track record of landing stories in print, digital, TV, and radio
* Strong understanding of modern media consumption
* Superior writing and communication skills
* A ‘can-do’ attitude with a positive, proactive mindset
* Strong creativity skills, evident through demonstrable experience
* An audience-first mindset and the demonstrable experience in real-time analytics and using this to inform PR plans and recommendations
* Exceptional communication and presentation skills
* A good understanding of current consumer, PR, campaign and digital communications trends and best practices
* Energy and enthusiasm
