Scope for Role
To provide expertise in electronic, pneumatics, and mechanical help and assistance where necessary to ensure efficient plant operation.
Key Areas of Responsibility
(This list is not exhaustive, and the job description may be subject to change, in consultation with the post holder, in response to new circumstances)
1. Liaise with the Engineering Supervisors to establish and prioritize workload.
2. Provide technical expertise and advice to maintain an efficient maintenance service.
3. Perform planned maintenance to optimize machine efficiencies and minimize downtime.
4. Conduct daily safety checks on production and ancillary equipment, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.
5. Maintain high standards of housekeeping in Engineering workshops, boiler house, plant room, and effluent plant.
6. Access planned maintenance tasks using mobile phones or maintenance software (e.g., Piranha/Spiceworks).
7. Log machine problems, downtime, and corrective actions for accurate record-keeping.
8. Report machine downtime to Engineering Management, detailing times, actions, and production losses.
9. Record usage and performance data for compressed air and refrigeration plant systems.
10. Fault-find and repair specialized plant and equipment while providing a general maintenance service.
11. Operate maintenance workshop equipment and production machinery as required.
12. Communicate with staff at all levels and liaise with suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
13. Train newly recruited engineering technicians.
14. Conduct detailed shift handovers and prioritize workloads for production requirements.
15. Work with high-pressure systems and chemicals in compliance with Health & Safety and COSHH guidelines.
16. Prepare risk assessments and method statements as needed.
17. Participate in projects and assist with installing and commissioning new equipment.
18. Ensure compliance with regulations, including Legionella, Statutory Inspections, ATEX, DSEAR, Fixed Wiring, and HSE.

1. Good communication skills.

3. Physically able to work in various environments (wet, cold, hot).
4. Ability to work under pressure.
Essential
Qualifications and Experience
1. Recognized 4-year apprenticeship.
2. Electrical and mechanical bias, with multi-skilled development.
3. Computer literacy.
4. PLC experience (Siemens S7 & Rockwell) and diagnostic skills.
5. 17th or 18th Edition certification.
6. Experience with high-speed automated machinery.
7. Familiarity with PLCs, electrical control, pneumatic systems, and gas burners.
Desirable
1. Relevant automated manufacturing experience.

Hours: 5 days p/w, 10pm – 6am
