You'll be responsible for:
* Supporting and facilitating the successful implementation of the commercial strategy for the project in alignment with the business unit's business plan.
* Advising and supporting commercial teams to ensure optimal commercial performance of projects, maximizing profitability, and improving operational efficiency.
* Managing and leading the necessary intervention where project performance requires additional measures to support it.
* Facilitating the understanding and management of the project's obligations, liabilities, and entitlements under the contract.
* Supporting teams in identifying and realizing additional revenue and margin where appropriate.
* Formulating with the teams a commercial management process that yields a consistent reporting approach appropriate for the scale of project/objectives.
* Identifying, assessing, and managing commercial risks, opportunities, and issues across projects, along with the appropriate response for realization and mitigation.
* Reviewing project KPIs and incentives, including financial forecasts, revenue recognition, and cost control, to produce commercial modeling to inform business forecasting and decision-making.
* Ensuring effective contract management and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with key members of the business, understanding their needs and delivering value through commercial solutions.
* Acting as a trusted advisor, managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring satisfaction through proactive communication and problem-solving.
* Representing the consultancy commercial function at senior-level meetings and external forums.
* Providing guidance and leadership to the commercial team, deputizing for the senior commercial director.
* In conjunction with the senior commercial director, embedding a strategy and process for reviewing performance across the business, as well as a process for supporting and intervening in projects where necessary.
* In conjunction with the senior commercial director, chairing the bi-monthly performance review meetings.
* The management and development of performance support staff to provide data, systems support, and commercial support to this role.
* The development of internal reporting procedures and protocols, in conjunction with hub commercial leads and the finance community.
* Conducting regular reviews of project performance, profitability, entitlement, and cost recovery.
* Working with the senior commercial director to formulate and deliver commercial educational modules to operational teams worldwide.
* Working with the senior commercial director to formulate a strategy around developing the right commercial culture, knowledge, and expectation in the business.
You'll need to have:
* Commercial acumen: Strong understanding of commercial strategies, financial management, and contract law within a project-based consultancy environment.
* Project management expertise: Experience of overseeing complex, multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring they meet their success criteria.
* Negotiation and communication: Excellent negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and manage relationships with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues at a senior level.
* Leadership: Experience leading commercial teams, driving performance, and developing talent in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
* Risk management: Ability to identify and mitigate commercial risks, and to seize opportunities to improve profitability and client satisfaction. Expertise in risk management processes and reporting.
* Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed commercial decisions.
* Creative, pragmatic thinker with a solution-oriented mindset.
You'll also have:
* Bachelor's degree in business, finance, quantity surveying, project management, or a related field.
* Good working knowledge of common forms of professional services contracts, notably NEC.
* Familiarity with the basics of contract formation and operation and relevant legislation.
* Minimum of 10 years' experience in commercial management, ideally within a consultancy or project-driven business.
* Proven track record in successfully leading the commercial performance of large, complex projects or portfolios.
* Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, risk management, and financial controls.
* Professional certification (e.g., RICS, CIPS, PMP) is desirable but not required.
