We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Lead Nuclear Assurance Inspector to be involved in the compliance for game changing technology within the nuclear industry.
The role of Nuclear Assurance is to provide an independent advice and challenge service to Rolls Royce SMR Limited which provides assurance to the ELT/Board that our product will protect people from harm and that the business operating framework, its management system and the culture of its workforce meet the expectations of the nuclear industry. As part of a team, the Lead Nuclear Assurance Inspector will be responsible for delivering internal challenge and advice on all aspects of Rolls-Royce SMR’s Safety, Environmental, Safeguards and Security (E3S) performance. The post-holder will be instrumental in enabling Nuclear Assurance evaluations of:
1. whether the business is meeting its objective of delivering a product where risks are demonstratable As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP), utilises Best Available Techniques (BAT), is ‘Secure by Design’ and ‘Safeguards by Design’, and
2. whether the business is meeting customer and regulatory expectations of being a nuclear power plant vendor-of-choice, including the expectations of the UK regulators’ Generic Design Assessment process.
As part of the wider Nuclear Assurance team, the post-holder’s opportunity to influence is business-wide and is flexible to suit the experience and subject matter expertise of the individual. There is opportunity to make a real difference to the performance of the business from a nuclear safety and E3S perspective.
As with any Assurance role, real success is achieved when those with delivery accountability proactively seek advice and challenge from credible experts as part of active risk management processes or strengthening decision making. So, specifically for this role, success is when the postholder has used a range of independent oversight techniques to influence the adoption of relevant good practice in their respective areas of experience and/or expertise. The post-holder will be proactively sought for advice and/or independent challenge by those accountable for delivery. The post-holder will form part of how Nuclear Assurance reinforces the adoption of a healthy nuclear safety culture across its workforce and will be seen as an exemplar and a leader-by-example in this field. The post-holder will work collaboratively with other assurance teams/individuals to ensure the business maximises the value for money it receives on all assurance activity. The post-holder will maintain and grow their industry network to ensure the advice and challenge they offer is always cognisant of developing and/or improving relevant good practice.
