An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialty doctor in Geriatrics at FGH.
The job would be based within the care of the elderly team.
The orthopaedic care at FGH is provided on ward 2- a 24 bedded ward. Patients are admitted and remain under the care of the orthopaedic team with input from the orthogeriatric service which comprises a specialty doctor and nurse practitioner. The post holder would be expected to review patients with fractured neck of femur and organise a medical plan for their care as well as liaise with orthopaedic colleagues and anaesthetic staff.
Communication with family members would be a significant part of the role as well as understanding of frailty and post operative complications in elderly patients.

Main duties of the job
Main duties would include:
Caring for fractured neck of femur patients along the NOF pathway in conjunction with thecare of the elderly consultants and orthogeriatric nurse practitioners.
Regular input into Abbey View (a nurse led step down unit) supported by nurse practitioners and the medical team.
Clinic experience in the weekly falls clinic and monthly bone health clinic for fractured NOF patients.
Opportunities to work with the front door frailty team as time allows.
As well as a clinical role, this post would offer experience in service development and leadership as these areas within the hospital are undergoing change.
You will ensure that all clinical activity is recorded accurately and comprehensively and submitted via the clinical system (currently Lorenzo.)
The post holder will be required to manage their own time effectively and flexibly as required in working across the clinical pathway.

Person Specification
Education & qualifications
Essential
1. Hold a primary medical degree as recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC)
2. Recognised medical degree
Desirable
3. MRCP
4. Further qualifications in geriatric medicine, frailty or related subjects Parkinsons disease
Experience
Essential
5. 3 years (full time equivalent) hospital experience in relevant Medical Specialties since registration
6. Ability to undertake comprehensive geriatric assessments and manage patients in a community Elderly Care ward setting Knowledge of UK Hospital Systems (or equivalent)
Desirable
7. Confident in the care of acutely ill frail patients, in CCU/HDU etc
8. Experience in Elderly Care Experience in Community Geriatric Medicine; both ward and home settings
