As Privacy Counsel, you will work as part of Deliveroo's in-house legal team to provide legal advice supporting the expansion and operation of key business strategies. You will manage privacy legal work streams across the business and support the implementation of all aspects of Deliveroo's global privacy strategy.
You will report to the Head of Privacy, and work onsite from Deliveroo HQ in London (Cannon Street) for 3+ days per week.
What you will do:
1. Lead, manage and assist on privacy law matters. You will: Provide privacy advice on corporate strategic and business growth projects,Work as a trusted strategic advisor of the business teams to advise on new products, services and projects, such as those involving novel technologies, marketing campaigns and app developer requirements,Support the Commercial legal team globally in negotiating and drafting privacy-related contracts and keeping precedents updated,Draft and support with the implementation of Deliveroo's privacy compliance arrangements, such as privacy policies and procedures,Partner with the Employment legal team globally on any matters relating to riders and Deliveroo staff,Advise and manage privacy legal claims, andAdvise on regulatory interactions.
2. Be an active team member contributing to the formulation and continuous development of Deliveroo's global privacy strategy.
3. Partner with: the Data Protection Officer team to provide support and advice on any escalated privacy matters, such as those involving data subject rights requests, privacy complaints and data incidents,the Data Management and Privacy Ops teams on the technical implementation of data protection principles within the business.
4. Interpret and apply current laws applicable to Deliveroo's ever expanding business, identify what's coming around the corner and mitigate legal risks.
5. Manage outside legal counsel globally.
6. Monitor the industry landscape, keeping up to date about evolutions, trends, enforcement actions, and best practices in privacy-related laws and regulations. You will inform Deliveroo's global privacy strategy plan, advise the business and collaborate with the Comms & Policy team.
7. Partner with other departments to provide privacy advice and support, such as Consumer Strategy, Marketing, Advertising, Delivery Ops, Tech and Data Science, Information Security, Risk, Control & Compliance, Regulatory Compliance and Internal Audit.
What we're looking for:
8. 2+ years PQE in the privacy/technology department at a leading law firm or in-house function (secondment or other in-house experience a plus).
9. Excellent academics and training.
10. Experience advising on privacy matters and supporting data protection compliance projects. You produce high-quality work product to provide effective and pragmatic legal advice.
11. Strong business judgment, creativity, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
12. Ability to thrive in high-impact scenarios and remain calm under pressure.
13. Curiosity, willingness to learn, and strong organizational skills.
14. Excellent soft skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with legal team and business partners.
15. Proficiency in other European languages is a plus.
