Job summary
The clinical role of the band 5 MSK Physiotherapist is to be responsible for their own caseload, without direct supervision. They perform functional assessment of patients.
A band 5 receives supervision and development in the form of regular training, clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, and case conferences.
There will be opportunities to take part in evidence-based audit and research projects to support both teams and clinical practice.
Contribute to a 7-day extended hours service rota within MSK. Training is provided to participate in the on-call physiotherapy service only if required.
Main duties of the job
1. To undertake a comprehensive assessment of MSK patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multiple pathologies, using advanced clinical reasoning and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition and/or problems.
2. Formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills, and knowledge of treatment skills. E.g., manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education, exercise classes, and alternative options.
3. To formulate accurate prognoses and recommend the best course of intervention to patients, carers, and other health care professionals, developing comprehensive and alternative options.
4. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care.
5. Maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence-based practice, developing specialist knowledge of particular conditions and patient types.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy
* Good standard of general education including GCSE maths and English grade C and above.
* A Levels or equivalent qualification
* Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
Experience Essential
* Student placements or qualified clinical work to have provided a broad range of experience in for example:
* Respiratory
* Stroke and Neurology
* Musculoskeletal Conditions
* Trauma and Orthopaedics
* Experience as a graduate within an acute hospital setting or appropriate community setting
* An ability to prioritise and organise own workload
* An ability to delegate work to assistants and students
* An ability to cope with a range of options, analyse, compare, find solutions and decide on a course of action
* Demonstrate an interest in developing expertise within Physiotherapy
* Demonstrate a professional attitude
* Able to take a team lead role in the absence of a senior
Desirable
* Relevant post-graduate experience
Additional Criteria Essential
* An ability to cope with moving/manoeuvring patients/equipment on a daily basis
* An ability to frequently concentrate on patient assessments and treatments
* An ability to cope with occasional exposure to distressing/emotional situations
* An ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Commitment to a 7-day working and on-call commitment as required
