This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic paediatric trainee (most suitable for ST5 or above) to develop their skills and experience in medical education and educational leadership, through a focus on undergraduate paediatric education.
The undergraduate paediatric course or ICU (integrated course unit) is set in Year 4 of the five-year MBChB programme at the University of Leeds. There are approximately 300 students per year that are divided into 5 ICU groups of 60 students. Each of these ICU groups rotates into paediatrics over a 6-week period through the academic year. You would be working alongside academic and clinical teams to support the University undergraduate programme for the teaching and assessment of paediatrics and child health.
This post will be for 3 days a week in the paediatric education post during daytime working with a full on-call commitment to general paediatrics or a paediatric speciality on the HST rota. Experience working on a middle grade rota is desirable/beneficial. Appointed trainees will be able to express a preference for the specialty in which they work clinically - the placement cannot be guaranteed but will be facilitated wherever possible.

1. To assist in the general running of the course both at an ICU level and for Leeds students.
2. To help to organise and deliver lectures and seminar teaching, especially in introductory week.
3. To organise and deliver ward-based clinical teaching.
4. To assist with tutoring of students, by helping to recruit, train, support and enthuse tutors, and to take on the lead tutor role where possible.

To assist in provision of pastoral and academic support to students as necessary within the course (it is helpful to become familiar with what is provided by the University and School of Medicine, including Personal Tutor System, Academic SubDean for Year 4, Student Support Team, Student Counselling Service, Equality and Diversity Service, mitigation system).
Assessment:
1. To assist with reviewing assessments at the end of each 6-week block.
2. To help to prepare the written and OSCE examination material in liaison with the Year 4 Assessment Lead, the Paediatric Assessment Lead, and the Paediatric Course Manager.
Additionally, you may be involved in the following wider roles:
1. To help represent paediatrics on the course management team, to support the assessment and moderation process.
2. To help with Year 4 Theme Day teaching (runs 3 times a year).
3. Supervision of elective and physician associate students.
4. To help in keeping the paediatric course materials on the VLE up to date.
